NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fashion’s biggest night was there at the Met Gala 2024 with the celebrities flaunting their sartorial best, including Lizzo who rocked a ‘vase dress’ to the gala.

As the celebrities graced the stairs of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday, May 6, they became creative with their ensembles which drew a lot of attention from the fans.

While the celebrities flaunted their dresses, some of them also drew criticism from their internet fans. Some of the looks even ended up becoming the fodder for memes including Rebecca Ferguson’s ‘barber’ look and Lana Del Rey’s ‘thorn crown’.

Another look that elicited creative comments from the fans is Lizzo's 'vase dress', which, according to several fans, resembled a "used coffee filter."

Lizzo, born Melissa Jefferson, however, didn't feel the same as she shared pictures of her beautiful ensemble and warned fans that if they didn’t consider her “best dressed”, they are “fatphobic", per Daily Mail.

Lizzo makes sure she won’t tolerate slander against her dress

The 2024 Met Gala was smashing success with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour hosting the prestigious event

All the celebrities made sure to create a statement on the green carpet as they dressed according to this year’s theme ‘Garden of Time’.

The ‘Truth Hurts’ songstress took the theme seriously as she rocked a light brown sleeveless dress from Weinsanto, which the designer house referred to as the “vase dress.”

While the sheer floral gown looked exquisite, social media users trolled the matching headpiece by comparing it with a “used filter coffee.”

Lizzo, who has been sharing behind-the-scenes pictures and footage of her getting dressed for the evening, shared a full-length picture of her look while issuing a stern warning, “If I'm not in your best dressed, you're fatphobic.”

She, however, lightened the situation by putting a series of squinting faces with tongue emojis.

Lizzo’s column dress also featured a statement upturned skirt, that matched with the entire structure of the ensemble. Her headpiece, staying true to its vase theme, had a funnel-like structure.

The most exquisite part of her dress was, however, the bright-colored floral motifs sewn into her dress.

Last year, in August, the songstress, who has been an advocate for plus sizes and inclusivity, was rocked with allegations from her former background dancers who accused her of perpetrating a sexually and racially abusive work culture, per Metro.

Fans commented on Lizzo's 'fatphobic' post

Lizzo's comment, however, elicited a mixed reaction from her fans. While the fans admitted that they are not "fatphobic" as the songstress claimed them to be, the consensus was toward an aversion to the headpiece.

One of Lizzo's fans said, "I'm not fatphobic I just don't like the headpiece." Someone else chimed in, "It’s giving diva cup."

The third user commented on her Instagram post, "The used filter of the coffee."

"It's giving... mushroom? Idk," noted someone else. Another fan quipped, "You can't shame us into liking this 😂."

A social media user declared, "I love and support you Lizzo but we gotta jump the stylist out who got you wearing spicy boudin casing to the Met Gala. 😕."

Another netizen added, "I’m not fatphobic you’re just not best dressed ❤️."

"It’s giving when you’re trying to take off pantyhose and just the little tip of the toe is dangling," explained another fan unhappy with Lizzo's look.

Someone else referred to the late 'Fashion Police' host, saying, "Why couldn't Joan Rivers be alive to comment on this? 😂."

"Poorly conceived. Poorly executed. Not the most flattering presentation. But it’s been said the rose petals smelled nice," said someone else.

As fans were commenting on her headpiece, some social media users criticized her choice of caption as well.

"And she thinks she ate with that caption lmao," said one of the fans.

Someone else criticized, "That’s an incredible dress and a great photo…. But that comment was completely unnecessary. I love Lizzo, but that commentary needs to stop."

Another fan replied to Lizzo's caption saying, "I think your stylist might be tho cuz wth is this."

"Ya see no one was even really looking at your weight but you made it about that in particular which I think personally is distasteful, joke or not….i can honestly say I don’t like this look at all though and it’s not best dressed worthy at all," said another netizen.

Someone else added, "We don’t have to be fatphobic to dislike a dress, the headpiece It’s giving fishtail."
