Lizzo sparks backlash over 'no such thing as illegal, no borders' anti-ICE rant: 'Avoid this thinking'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Four-time Grammy-winning singer and rapper Lizzo has sparked a fierce debate over immigration and land ownership after sharing a series of provocative posts on the social platform Bluesky, questioning the legitimacy of borders and calling out what she described as the hypocrisy of US immigration enforcement.
The outspoken singer took aim at recent ICE raids in Los Angeles, where growing protests have drawn attention to a surge in federal immigration activity.

Lizzo calls borders and land ownership 'tools for racism' amid immigration crackdown and anti-ICE protests
In her posts, Lizzo not only challenged the concept of national boundaries but also argued that Mexicans being removed from US soil amounts to the displacement of people from their ancestral homeland.
“There’s no such thing as ‘illegal,’ there are no ‘boarders,’ [sic] no one really ‘owns’ the land on this planet. When people finally understand that these terms and ideas are tools for racism and capitalism, we can truly be free. We can finally see the oppressors for who they are," she wrote on Thursday, June 12.

The post quickly went viral and drew backlash from conservative pundits, particularly due to a follow-up post where Lizzo appeared to reverse course on her anti-land-ownership stance, writing, “The irony of an ice agent forcing a Mexican person off of their ancestral land when that agent’s ancestors are European immigrants is just…”

In another post, Lizzo highlighted fears circulating in left-leaning activist spaces, suggesting that the immigration crackdown is less about policy and more about establishing authoritarian control. “Someone said what’s happening right now in LA isn’t immigration policy—it’s regime prep Wheeeeewwwww,” the 'About Damn Time' singer stated.

She capped off the thread with a pointed jab at those supporting the administration behind the crackdown, writing, “And still… there are people who voted for this who are going to sleep with a smile on their faces pleased as pie.. It’s a wild world y’all.”

Lizzo, who has previously campaigned with Kamala Harris and lent her celebrity to progressive causes, has often used her platform to address racial, gender, and social justice issues.

Lizzo ignites fierce debate with remarks on borders, and land ownership amid anti-ICE protests
Lizzo sparked a heated social media firestorm after voicing radical views against the immigration crackdown as anti-ICE protests emerge across the nation. Her remarks quickly drew sharp criticism and polarized reactions across platforms.
One Bluesky responded, "I think you mean 'borders,'" as Lizzo mispelled it as "boarders" in one of her posts, and added, "And what a dumb statement. Since no one owns land, I am coming to your mansion to camp out and putting the word out that you don’t believe in land ownership and that the illegals can camp there. Cool?”

Another user questioned her grasp on history, “Do you even know your freaking history? America is not Mexican ancestral land. If you want to be factual Spain was in California first. Your really not very smart.”

One pushed back, writing, “I’m going to barge into your home and demand you feed me, pay my expenses, and never leave?”
Ok. I’m going to barge into your home and demand you feed me, pay my expenses, and never leave?

In a bizarre turn, another stated, “She’s pitching enslavement in a Marxist regime… avoid this thinking. It will only hurt your chances at a successful life.”
