Macaulay Culkin breaks silence on estranged father
During the Sunday, March 30 episode of Kate and Oliver Hudson's 'Sibling Revelry' podcast, Macaulay Culkin opened up about his strained relationship with his father.
He revealed that by the time his parents separated in the 1990s, he "wanted nothing to do with his father." The split between his mother, Patricia Brentrup, and Christopher Culkin led to a custody battle over their seven children, including Macaulay and his siblings, Kieran, Rory, Dakota (who died at 29 in 2008), Quinn, Shane, Christian, and Jennifer.

"I haven't spoken to him in, what, 30-something years?" Macaulay shared. "He deserves it, too. He's a man who has seven kids, and now he has four grandkids, and none of them want anything to do with him."
His father, once a manager of Macaulay’s early acting career, has long been estranged from his seven children, including actors Kieran and Rory Culkin. According to Macaulay, Kit is also alienated from all four of his grandchildren.
Macaulay has long accused his father of being physically and emotionally abusive. Their relationship collapsed in the 1990s when Macaulay’s mother, Patricia Brentrup, split from Kit, triggering a bitter custody battle.
"As a man myself, I would know that I f****d up. I must have done something wrong," he said. "I have more than an inkling that he does not feel that way. Like (to him,) we're wrong, and he's right. He's one of those narcissistic, crazy people. Me and him were always butting heads. Like I said, he was a bad man."
Christopher has largely stayed out of the public eye since cutting ties with his ex and their seven children. However, in a rare 2016 statement to the Daily Mail, he made his stance on Macaulay clear, stating, “I don’t consider him a son anymore.”
When Oliver, 48, asked if he or his siblings knew whether their father was still alive or had been in contact with him in recent years, Macaulay responded, "As far as I know, he's alive. I think my older brother had some contact with him at one point. But I think that turned sour pretty fast again," Macaulay added.
Macaulay Culkin says his success fueled resentment from his father

Macaulay Culkin recently opened up about his complicated relationship with his father, Christopher Culkin. Now a father himself, the former child star admitted that his success may have been a source of deep resentment for his dad.
Culkin revealed that his father, who had once pursued acting and ballet, struggled with his son’s meteoric rise in Hollywood. Macaulay expressed that he believes Christopher harbored "a certain amount of resentment towards me, I think is what it was."
"(My dad) wanted to be an actor, and he kinda did some stuff," Culkin explained. "He never really got as far as, like, Horace on Broadway. And then he did some ballet too and all this kind of stuff."
Despite Christopher’s attempts, his career never took off. Meanwhile, Macaulay, who has little resemblance to his father, secured lead roles with ease.
He added, "And so then all of a sudden, he has this kid that didn't look anything like him, to be honest. I look a lot like my mother. I don't look like him. And right out of the that, I instantly got the lead stuff in the ballet company," Culkin shared. "I instantly booked all these things like that. I think he resented me for that. I think he kind of hated me a little bit for that."
