Viral edited video captures Usher refusing to endorse Kamala Harris

A video circulating in right-wing circles allegedly shows music icon Usher refusing to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris during an appearance on 'The View.' However, the full footage reveals a different narrative.

Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, shared the edited clip on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday afternoon, September 11, with the caption, “Here’s Joy Behar trying to get Usher to say he’s voting for Kamala, and he basically says ‘no thanks.'” 

In the clip, Behar asks Usher whether entertainers should publicly support candidates in the 2024 election. Behar claimed, “This emergency that we’re in, I think it behooves artists to come out and speak for Kamala against Donald Trump because he is an existential threat to the country,” to which Usher responded, “What do you say to that? You know what? I don’t get too deep into politics.”

“I didn’t get a chance to watch the debate last night. I obviously have been watching like everybody else. I think voting is an individual choice. And I think that you’re right. You have to look at the reality of the country that we are, and the country that we want to be, and find the candidate that you feel both are who fits the category of where we want to be.” Usher explained.

"And that’s it. And that’s what you vote based off of. Who you highlight and how you choose to highlight on whatever platform you have is your prerogative,” he added.

Many right-wing figures praised Usher’s stance, with Outkick’s Clay Travis noting, “Usher declined to endorse Kamala on ‘The View’ today too despite Joy Behar trying to get him to do so. Also told people to do their own research and register to vote. Again, it feels like a big change going on here.”

However, the complete video shows Usher clearly expressing his support for Kamala Harris in the 2024 election. When Behar asked, “So you’re supporting Kamala Harris in this election, I understand?”

Usher replied with enthusiasm, “Yes!”

He also mentioned that he couldn’t watch the debate due to a concert, but his overall stance was much more political than the edited clip suggested.
