Mama June temporarily becomes sole guardian of late daughter Anna Cardwell’s 11-year-old child
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mama June recently had a reason to smile after being granted temporary sole guardianship of her 11-year-old granddaughter, Kaitlyn.
Kaitlyn is the child of the late Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell, the daughter of June, who died of adrenal cancer in December after a 10-month-long battle.
Anna Cardwell was the mother of two daughters
The girl’s father’s identity is “unknown” but she grew up alongside Anna and her former husband Michael Cardwell's eight-year-old daughter, Kylee. The two were married from 2014 to 2017.
Now, after Anna’s death, the matriarch of the Shannon family submitted a “petition for change of child custody and for emergency ex parte relief.”
Her plea came after Michael requested Kaitlyn’s guardianship, Radar Online reported. June’s petition asserted that the minor girl “does not have a legal father.”
Her papers also noted, “More recently, approximately one month before her passing the mother and child began residing with [June],” before adding that the 44-year-old is not “aware of any interested parties other than herself that would have standing to seek custody of the child.”
Eventually, the court ruled in June’s favor and she got sole custody of the child until a future hearing.

June informed her followers of Anna Cardwell’s death on her Instagram, writing, “With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM.”
She continued, “She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today.”

Honey Boo Boo paid tribute to Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell
Anna’s younger sister Alana 'Honey Boo Boo' Thompson also shared a heartbreaking post on Instagram.
She wrote, “This is one post I wish I didn’t have to make. Last night we all surrounded Anna with love & let her know it was okay to go.”

The 18-year-old further stated, “Unfortunately around 11 pm Anna took her last breath. Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family, we all know she is at peace now. I really don’t know what to say as my heart is completely broken.”
She added, “Watching my 29-year-old sister this last year battle this horrible disease hasn’t been easy. Anna was a fighter & still is.”
“Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies & our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality. I’m so glad that you waited til i was home to take your last breath!” Alana, who recently started college in Denver, further said.
She continued, “I would’ve loved for you to get to see me graduate college but i know you will forever cheer me on in heaven! We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever.”
“I promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left! The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you Anna. You hit me hard with his one Anna but i know your in a better place now and pain free forever!” her younger sister concluded the emotional tribute.
