Mariah Carey thinks karma has hit ‘arrogant’ Jennifer Lopez amid canceled tour and divorce rumors
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez’s decades-old feud just went a notch higher!
Recently, it was reported that the ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ singer is planning a concert comeback later this year, which coincided with the calling off of Lopez’s 'This Is Me...Live' tour.
Lopez canceled her tour to spend more time with her family and children, she told fans in a statement.
A source close to Carey, 55, shared with In Touch that the singer thinks “it’s karma biting her in the butt” for Lopez amid her cancelled tour and rumored marital woes.
Mariah Carey thinks it’s ‘karma’ for Jennifer Lopez
Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez, both 55, had a shared history of feud from the early days of their career back in the late 1990s.
Talking about the ‘Fantasy’ singer’s upcoming tour, the insider shared, “Mariah is really excited to be getting back to Vegas and looking forward to proving she’s still at the top of the game when it comes to putting on a show and bringing in ticket sales.”
Hinting at her feud with the ‘Jenny From the Block’ singer, the source suggested, “She’s extra excited to show that she’s still got it after J Lo had to go and cancel her concert tour.”
The mole even added that Carey has been following Lopez’s tour cancelation amid the marital drama with Ben Affleck “very closely and took a lot of pleasure in seeing her fall on her face.”
They further dished, “She believes it’s karma biting her in the butt because she’s not as talented as she thinks and way too arrogant.”
“For J Lo it’s a huge big kick in the teeth to Mariah making all these huge concert plans, especially because she knows how much she’s been trash talking her and laughing about her divorce to boot,” shared the source.
They even noted that though the two women have plenty of common friends, thus Lopez has heard about the reactions “all second and third-hand.”
The source, nevertheless, added, “Now she’s going to have to suffer the indignity of seeing Mariah take the stage. But J Lo isn’t giving up, she’s hoping to pick herself up and get the tour back on track once all this mess dies down.”
“And a big motivation will be going head-to-head with Mariah and competing for her holiday fan base. It’s hard to believe she’d be thinking that far ahead, but that’s J Lo for you, she always has a game plan,” added the tipster.
On August 2, Carey announced her tour by posting on her social media, “It’s not time yet, but I have exciting news!! Mariah Carey’s Christmas Time, my biggest holiday tour to date, is coming to 20 cities starting November 6, 2024!”
Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez's rivalry
The long rumor of a rivalry between Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez started many years ago when Lopez signed a record deal with Carey’s ex-husband Tommy Mottola and started collaborating.
It was then that fans started comparing their talents which purportedly started the rumor of their rivalry.
Per In Touch, in the May 1999 issue of the now-defunct magazine ‘Mirabella’, Carey responded to a question about their rivalry. In the article titled 'There's Something About Mariah', the songstress shared, "She's a dancer, isn't she? She lip-synched Selena's vocals [in the 1997 film 'Selena'], you know. I don't think that as a singer, we're in the same category as artists."
Earlier in the summer when Lopez’s tour (now canceled) was struggling with poor ticket sales, a source close to Carey told In Touch, "It's no secret that Mariah can't stand J Lo, they've had a feud going back more than 20 years so of course she's thrilled to see her ticket sales in the toilet.”
"Mariah is never shy about trash talking J Lo and always complains about how overrated and phony she is. She's happy the public is finally seeing it too,” added the insider.
