Is Matty Healy mentioned in Taylor Swift's songs?
Reportedly, Taylor's new song 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived' from the much-anticipated 'The Tortured Poets Department' album was released on April 19, revealing more about her personal life.
The songs from the new album recount her fleeting romance with her long-time friend Matty whom she dated briefly in May and June 2023 after ending her relationship with Joe Alwyn.
“You tried to buy some pills from a friend of friends of mine/ But they just ghosted you/ Now you know what it feels like,” she sings in 'The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived'.
The lyrics refer to a man in a "Jehovah's Witness suit" who was "rusting my sparkling summer". Matty is known for wearing suits while performing and the pair are believed to have split last summer, according to the publication.
More mention of Matty Healy in Taylor Swift's album
TMZ noted that the pop singer appeared to slam her fan base for her brief romance with Healy in one of the songs, 'But Daddy I Love Him.'
The lyrics of the song go, " I'd rather burn my whole life down. Than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning. I'll tell you somethin' 'bout my good name. It's mine alone to disgrace. I don't cater to all these vipers dressed in empath's clothing."
In the song, Taylor goes on to condemn the "judgmental creeps" who "say they want what's best for me."

Harper Bazaar also noted that many of the songs are actually about Swift’s whirlwind relationship with Healy. The most obvious indication it said is in the lines “I scratch your head, you fall asleep. Like a tattooed golden retriever,” as Healy has many tattoos while Alwyn has none.
Besides, the song also mentions, “You smokеd, then ate seven bars of chocolate. We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist."
According to the publication, in 2018, Healy tweeted about his love for Puth. “That Charlie Puth and Boyz II Men track is harrrrrd,” he posted, which it noted was seemingly about the song 'If You Leave Me Now'.
Matty Healy loves typewriters
Typewriters have served as a recurring motif throughout the promotion and release of the new album.
Another line from the title track goes: “You left your typewriter at my apartment. Straight from 'The Tortured Poets Department'."
The publication mentioned a video unearthed by fans in which Healy discusses his affection for vintage machines with GQ.
“I really like typewriters as well. I don’t have one with me because that is really impractical,” he says in the video.
“And the thing is with typewriters and writing with pen to paper, there’s a kind of element of commitment that goes with the ceremony of it—therefore, it requires you to concentrate a bit better," he says.
The publication explained that Healy was also mentioned in album songs like 'Guilty as Sin' and 'I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)' about addressing Healy's bad boys reputation.
Why was Matty Healy and Taylor Swift's relationship problematic?
The relationship which, according to different reports, worked for one to two months was not looked up to humbly by Swift fans due to Healy's bad reputation.
Months before being linked to Taylor Swift after her breakup with Joe Alwyn, Healy stirred attention by kissing fans on stage at several concerts.
He abandoned this practice at a show in January 2023 when Swift made a surprise appearance to perform 'Anti-Hero' for the fans.
“I’m not kissing anybody in front of Taylor Swift, have some respect. In front of the queen, it’s not happening,” Healy told the crowd according to Us Weekly.
A month later, he faced criticism for a podcast he did with hosts Adam Friedland and Nick Mullen. In that episode, the three men made fun of Ice Spice and Healy laughed while Friedland and Mullen imitated Chinese and Hawaiian accents. He also shared an inappropriate story about self-pleasure involving mistreated women.
