Meghan Markle advised to 'mend fences' with sick father Thomas Markle after 6 years of estrangement
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle is being encouraged to reconcile with her father, Thomas Markle, after years of estrangement.
Thomas, who suffered a stroke in 2022, hasn't seen Meghan and Harry for six years, as per Mirror.
Their last conversation occurred when he was in a hospital bed before their wedding.
Meghan and Prince Harry married in 2018, around the time she distanced herself from her father's side of the family. The estrangement stemmed from her father staging paparazzi photos days before the royal wedding in May 2018.
Columnist urges Meghan Markle to reconcile with sick father Thomas Markle
DailyMail columnist Maureen Callahan discussed the estrangement between Meghan Markle and her father, Thomas Markle, during an interview with GB News America.
She remarked, “She probably won't listen to the best minds around her. This reminds me of our last conversation about Meghan and her inability, for whatever reason, to mend fences with her own sick father.”
Callahan shared, "I think if she really had any intention of making amends with not just the King and the Prince and Princess of Wales, but with the British people [who] gave her so much goodwill and the wedding."
Callahan further added, "Step number one, I think, would be to very quietly make amends with her own father. Show that charity begins at home, and then you make the slow approach to the royals, whom you have so denigrated and accused of terrible things, while you monetized all these accusations.”
She emphasized, "It can't be that they're so terrible that you want nothing to do with them and you could never step foot in the UK again unless it's a luxury Windsor lounge at Heathrow. You may be overreacting."
Callahan also urged Meghan to "get everything right in terms of priorities."
She pointed out that both King Charles and the Princess of Wales have been diagnosed with cancer, suggesting this is the perfect time for Meghan "to swallow some of that humble pie she's cooking up."
However, the royal expert expressed concern that Meghan may be past the point of issuing an apology.
Internet weighs in on Meghan and Thomas Markle's relationship
The expert's comments have led to several users sharing their views on the complex dynamic between Meghan and her father.
One user claimed, "The will be very resentful that they could not see their grandparents. Im a big believer in that grandparents are up there with the parents in terms of importance to children." Another said, "Thomas has had an awful time of it in the media that I don't see that he deserves. And gosh, Meghan was so pretty with her real nose. Sorry, that sounded catty." A third claimed, "I think he's a very hurt man, to be sure."
Someone else added, "Thomas is better off without his daughter she will only organise staged events." Another claimed, "Not commenting on the wider family, just Mr Markle Sr. To me, it seems like he's behaved in a very normal way for someone clearly so introverted who was suddenly thrust into the media spotlight. We all make mistakes in the moment and I'd have given him a bit more slack."
Thomas Markle shared he wanted to see his grandchildren
Last September, Thomas Markle spoke out on British television during an appearance on 'Good Morning Britain'. He said, "I've always been here for her, I love her, I'll love her forever. I want her to reach out to me and let me see my grandkids and let me have a little peace. It's been five years."
In the interview, Thomas also mentioned how he still hasn't seen his grandchildren. He further stated by referring to King Charles III, who has also seen little of his grandchildren since Meghan and Harry stepped down as senior working Royals in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California. "I want to see my grandkids and I think the King wants to see his too."
