Meghan Markle surprised as Vanity Fair cover focused on Prince Harry and not her charity works

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Former Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter has revealed in his new memoir, 'When the Going Was Good', that Meghan Markle was caught off guard when her 2017 cover story focused on her relationship with Prince Harry rather than her charity work.
The memoir, out Tuesday, reportedly details Graydon Carter’s experience with Markle’s cover story, which was one of his last before stepping down as editor.
Graydon Carter says Meghan Markle was ‘adrift on the facts and reality’
Graydon Carter, 75, told Page Six that Meghan Markle’s interview took a different turn than she had expected.

He recalled that Vanity Fair’s cover booker, Jane Sarkin, suggested featuring Markle, 43, explaining that she was soon to marry Prince Harry.
Carter admitted he initially had no idea who Markle was when story was pitched
“I said, ‘I have no idea who that is.’ She said, ‘She’s on 'Suits.' I said, ‘I have no idea what that is, why should we do a story on her?’ So she said, ‘Because she’s going to marry Prince Harry,’” Carter told the outlet.
During the interview, Markle reportedly expressed frustration that the conversation focused on her relationship rather than her philanthropic efforts.

"Excuse me, is this going to all be about Prince Harry? Because I thought we were going to be talking about my charities and my philanthropy,” Markle allegedly said at the time, according to Carter.
Reacting to Markle’s concerns, Carter said, “This woman is slightly adrift on the facts and reality.”
Meghan Markle revealed in Vanity Fair cover story that relationship with Prince Harry changed 'nothing' in her
Meghan Markle's cover story titled 'She’s Just Wild About Harry' was published weeks before her engagement to Prince Harry, 40, in November 2017.

In the interview, she reflected on how their relationship had attracted intense public attention.
“It has its challenges, and it comes in waves—some days it can feel more challenging than others,” Markle said at the time, as per New York Post.
She also spoke about the early days of dating Harry and how public perception changed.
“We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception," she said.
She added, "Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship."
Graydon Carter believes Princess Diana would be saddened by Prince Harry's family rift
Graydon Carter, a friend of Prince Harry's late mother Princess Diana, shared his thoughts on her potential views about Harry's current relationship with the royal family.
He considered how Diana, who passed away in 1997, might feel about Harry's present situation.

"I would think she would feel great sorrow for her son to have been pulled away from his family like this, especially his brother but also his father,” Carter said.
He added, “Anytime someone comes between siblings, that’s a disaster, horrible for a family.”
