Meghan Markle slammed for recreating Princess Diana's Northwestern sweatshirt look: ‘Trying way too hard'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle’s latest social media post has resulted in people rolling their eyes as they accused her of copying late Prince Diana’s Northwestern sweatshirt look.

The Duchess of Sussex posted a now-disappeared video on her Instagram on Sunday night, February 23, that showed her donning an iconic purple sweater while walking in her backyard.

A similar jumper was worn by her mother-in-law in 1996 as she was spotted outside the Chelsea Harbour Club in London, Page Six reported.

The late mother of Prince Harry and Prince William coupled it with a pair of white biker shorts, a Gucci bag, and sneakers.

Meghan Markle's video included her husband and their children

The clip showed Meghan smiling while wearing sunglasses. The video also reportedly featured her husband, Prince Harry, and the couple’s two children — Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

She captioned the post, “A small break from work to soak in the weekend sunshine.” 

In the video, one of her children can be heard saying, “Mummy, I can do it if you want me to," as they helped her water the plants.

Daily Mail reported that Meghan’s sweater was similar to Diana’s, which was given to her when she went to Northwestern's Evanston campus in 1995 to raise money for its Robert H Lurie Cancer Center.

It was called the “Princess Diana Sweatshirt” and copies of it are still sold on Etsy and eBay. However, where the original one is now is not confirmed.

Meanwhile, the former actress herself is a graduate of the same university as she completed her double major in theatre and international studies from Northwestern in Illinois in 2003.

Internet says there's 'nothing original' about Meghan Markle

People online were not happy with Meghan Markle allegedly wearing a sweater similar to that of her late mother-in-law. One critic tweeted, “She is nothing like Diana. Shame on her for doing this.  Diana was an elegant, loving woman who did something that not many royals have done. She has the love of everyone.”

Another wrote, “Princess Diana would not get along with that grifter.”

One person wrote, “She has been doing it for years and years now. Disturbing!”
