NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Meghan Markle was accompanied by at least four different cars as part of her security detail as she enjoyed a night out in New York City on Thursday, April 10.

The Duchess of Sussex’s security team consisted of three SUVs along with an unmarked police vehicle, as reported by Page Six.

It has been said that the police vehicle was of the New York City Police Department with two detectives sitting inside.

All the cars went along with Meghan as she met her friends for dinner at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar. Following the dinner, she went to the Theater District, where she watched ‘Gypsy’ at the Majestic Theatre.

A paparazzi photographer called the mother-of-four’s “excessive” security “absolutely abnormal, totally over-the-top and excessive.”

They claimed, “Taylor [Swift] usually has two cars — her car that she’s in and a security car with her team and if she’s going somewhere, she has a separate car on-site with her team already there, but they don’t travel together.”

Meghan Markle deemed ‘out of control’

The source gave examples of celebrities like Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, and Jay-Z and Beyonce, who take one car with them when they are alone.

“No one gets police escorts,” they said, before noting, “Meghan is out of control and over-the-top, and it’s ridiculous if the city is paying for this. And if the NYPD was not on duty, then they shouldn’t be allowed to run lights. Somebody’s got to be paying for it.”

However, another tipster seemed to disagree with the first one.

They revealed that the NYPD’s services “can be made available based on the threat assessment and the circumstances of where they’re going and what they’re doing.”

This came after in 2023, Meghan and Prince Harry along with her mother Doria Ragland reportedly faced “a near catastrophic car chase” with paparazzi in NYC, as per Page Six.

A mole shared at the time, “It started off with 12 paparazzi, then ended up with four chasing [Meghan, Harry and Doria]. Their security tried their best to lose [photographers].”

Also, a spokesperson of the pair claimed, “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms. Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi.”

“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD officers. While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety,” they added.
