NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Barron Trump, who just turned 19, is navigating adulthood, college life at NYU.

But while the First Son is reportedly thriving, his doting mother, First Lady Melania Trump, is keeping a close eye on her son.

From Trump Tower to NYU dorms

Barron Trump’s been kept mostly out of the public eye for years, thanks in large part to Melania’s protective instincts. But with Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign and his successful return to the White House for a second term, Barron has been pulled into the spotlight whether he likes it or not.

Of course, he’s also in the middle of adjusting to college life at New York University.

He recently wrapped up his freshman year. While most children would be worrying about roommates and finals, Barron’s got other concerns — like having a full-time Secret Service detail and living under a microscope. Unsurprisingly, insiders say Melania is worried.

“Melania worries about the hate in the country and how it falls on her son, who is innocent of any of this,” one source told People. “She is and has been a good sounding board for him. They talk about life as it is and how they are in the spotlight. She tries to normalize his life. If that is even possible.”

Melania has reportedly been leaning heavily on her family. Her mother, Amalija Knavs, who sadly died in January, had been a constant support since Barron was born. Her father is still very much present and reportedly close to the family.

“Melania’s most meaningful moments of life have been with her family, and Barron is the lucky [beneficiary] of that love and caring,” the source added.

Supermom Melania Trump is still on duty

Another Palm Beach insider — close to the Trump circle at their Mar-a-Lago base — backed up Melania's reputation as a superhands-on mom. “Any child in the world spotlight like this would be lucky to have a parent so willing to give her time to help keep his life running smoothly,” the source said.

Melania’s got a full playbook for parenting a college child under media scrutiny. She's encouraging Barron to branch out and make new friends, but also warns him to stay wary of the inevitable haters, especially on a politically-charged campus like NYU.

“She wants to encourage him to make friends, be super careful of the haters which can be anywhere — especially on college campuses these days — and keep him mentally healthy by having open communication with him and the rest of her immediate family,” the Palm Beach source shared.

That said, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. Back in February, some NYU students noticed Barron wasn’t exactly blending in. “I just feel bad that he's having this hard college experience, and I understand that he wants to be left alone," said Kaya Walker, an undergrad in International Relations and French.

Barron Trump's alleged 'new girlfriend' and social game

But things might be turning around for the tallest Trump child, who stands at a staggering 6 feet 9 inches. "Barron has a really nice girlfriend and hangs out with her a lot," an insider close to Barron told NewsNation last month.

No name yet on who the lucky lady is. But with Secret Service around 24/7, it’s not hard to keep things private.

“He can have a girlfriend as the Secret Service guys are well-versed on how to handle this,” an insider told People. “Anyone who says being under Secret Service protection would keep him from dating is way off.”

College might be where Barron is finally finding his social stride. “He has met a lot of new people at NYU and made some friends,” said another source. “He is no slouch and attracts the attention of girls. And not just at college. He had female friends in high school in Florida. He gets along well with his female friends.”

And he’s not the spoiled rich child some might assume he’d be. A source whose daughter knew Barron in high school said he was just a regular teen. “Barron didn’t hold court and act like he was better than the others. He was in school and did his thing like everyone else,” they told People.

From all accounts, he’s not your typical Trump. “It’s hard to believe he is Donald Trump’s son, as he is more laid back,” said one Trump insider. “But he does have some of his moxie in a low-key way.”
