WASHINGTON, DC: First Lady Melania Trump jokingly said on Friday, December 12, that next year, President Donald Trump may pick the Christmas decorations for the White House.

Decorating the White House for the holidays has traditionally been a task for the first lady. The Trumps will celebrate the festive season with several events in the White House, which is decked out with Christmas decorations.

Melania Trump says maybe next year the POTUS will 'take over Christmas'

Melania Trump joined President Trump on Friday for a Christmas celebration at the White House. While addressing the crowd, the first lady joked that next year she might pass the responsibility off to the POTUS.

"Maybe, next year, he (Donald Trump) will take over Christmas. He could do the decorations," Melania joked as people were heard laughing. She then wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.

Interestingly, the responsibility of decorating the halls of the White House has not been something that Melania has taken lightly in her time as the first lady.

She led an initiative this year to have volunteers come and decorate the White House for Christmas.

Moreover, performers and musical groups, including school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers, were encouraged to apply for the opportunity to perform.

This year’s Christmas decorations feature blue butterflies and Lego portraits, and showcase her "Be Best" initiative and foster care support, with several lights and festive displays throughout the White House.

Melania Trump reveals White House Christmas decor for 2025

On December 1, Melania Trump took to X to share a short clip unveiling the White House Christmas decorations for 2025. She revealed the festive decor while wearing one of winter’s most coveted pieces, a 2010s Burberry military coat inspired by historical military uniforms.

The first lady showcased her months of design work and planning as she walked through rooms of the White House in the one-minute clip. She wore a navy wool double-breasted military coat from Burberry, featuring embossed gold buttons and a pleated back with a martingale.

She paired her coat with a dark turtleneck and skirt, along with thigh-high suede Christian Louboutin boots suited for winter.

Interestingly, the military jacket, a staple of Trump’s White House wardrobe, marked its return to the broader fashion landscape after a long run in the 2010s, largely influenced by Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection.
