NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Michelle Trachtenberg's mother talked to the late actress the night before she found her dead in her New York City apartment, a new TMZ report revealed.

Earlier, the NYPD confirmed that officers responded to a 911 call at 1 Columbus Place in New York City around 8 am on Wednesday, February 26, according to People.

The NYPD officials said, per the outlet, "Upon arrival, officers observed a 39-year-old female unconscious and unresponsive. EMS responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased. Criminality is not suspected."

TMZ had reported that it was Trachtenberg's mother, Lana, who found her "unresponsive, lying on her back in bed," which caused her to alert police and paramedics.

Notably, Lana last saw Michelle alive at 10 pm on Tuesday, February 25, and "she was clearly active despite her health concerns," according to TMZ's report.

Moreover, the NYPD confirmed that an investigation into the 'Gossip Girl' actress' death remains ongoing but could not confirm the details of TMZ's report, per People.

Interestingly, Trachtenberg never publicly talked about any health conditions, but she responded to comments on Instagram in January 2025 when they suggested she was unwell.

A day later, she made a similar post and wrote, "Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition no problems. Why do you have you hate? Get a calendar."

Insider claims Michelle Trachtenberg was 'really sick'

An insider informed People that Michelle Trachtenberg was "really down emotionally" and also had been dealing with "health issues."

The source said, "She told friends she was struggling. She was really, really sick and open with those in her circle about how much she was struggling."

Several sources informed ABC News that the actress recently underwent a liver transplant and may have been experiencing complications.

She then reprised the role for two episodes of HBO Max's reboot in 2023, which also became her last onscreen appearance, per People.

Before her death, Trachtenberg reminisced on her days co-starring with Gellar on 'Buffy'. In January, she shared a photo of them together and captioned it, "Slay all day! Always loved this twinning photo of us! #buffy #dawn #sister #womancrushwednesday."
