Mike Johnson wants to 'compel' Mexico to be cooperative on border policy but gets blasted by the internet
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Speaker Mike Johnson took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, March 25, to slam the demands made by the President of Mexico to help stop the influx of migrants into the United States.
In an interview on CBS, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador stated that the "flow of migrants would continue" unless his proposal is accepted, which stipulates the US "commit $20 billion a year to poor countries in Latin America and the Caribbean," "lift sanctions on Venezuela," "end the Cuban embargo," and "legalize law-abiding Mexicans living in the US."
Calling them absurd, Johnson suggested in his tweet that they should negotiate from a position of strength, and use leverage to compel Mexico to cooperate in securing the mutual border.
Mike Johnson says US facing 'humanitarian catastrophe' at southern border
Johnson wrote on X, "President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador’s policy suggestion for securing the US border is absurd." "The truth is that we face a security and humanitarian catastrophe at the southern border that is killing Americans and destroying our communities," he added.
"Meanwhile, the President of Mexico is coddling cartels and demanding the United States bankroll even more mass migration into our country. President Biden needs to confront the fact that employing leverage, as President Trump did, and not empty rhetoric, is the only way to compel Mexico to do its important part in securing the border," Johnson said.
"We should be using every tool at our disposal to secure our border and stem the flow of aliens into the United States, including the Migrant Protection Protocols. And we should be bringing every bit of leverage to compel the Mexican government to cooperate," he added.

"Just stop. Stop posting. The hypocrisy is nauseating. You've done nothing for us. You've overseen the tools of our destruction. Stop acting like it matters to you," commented a third.
