Mindy Kaling makes Tom Cruise’s coveted Christmas Bundt cake gifting list after Brooke Shields is cut off
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Mindy Kaling has made it to the list of recipients of Tom Cruise's renowned Christmas cake in 2024, the Daily Mail reported on Friday, December 20.
The coconut Bundt cake is coveted by stars in Hollywood, and while some have been receiving it for years, others have not been so lucky. Actress Brooke Shields revealed last year that she longed to be back on Cruise's cake list, but reportedly failed to make the cut yet again.
Kaling announced receiving the famed coconut cake by uploading a photograph on her Instagram Stories, on which she wrote, "IYKYK," which stands for "if you know, you know."
The story had the song 'Danger Zone' by Kenny Loggins playing in the background, which was from the soundtrack of Cruise's cult classic film, 'Top Gun.'
Brooke Shields failed to receive cake for second year
Brooke Shields revealed during the holiday season of 2023 that it was the first time she had not received the iconic cake from Cruise in a decade.
"I was on the list for a while - I had a good 10-year run, and I got the coconut cake every year," she told People during an interview.
"It was from them and Suri, so it was the three of them, and then soon it was no Suri and no Katie and just Tom. Then it went from just Tom for a while, but not every holiday. And then the cake stopped," she shared about receiving the coconut cake from Cruise and his former wife Katie Holmes and their child Suri.
"I want to get back on that cake list. It's the best cake. Tom, I need to be back on the cake list."
Where does Tom Cruise's Christmas cake come from?
Tom Cruise orders his Christmas cake from Doan's Bakery in Woodland Hills, California every year.
According to Goldbelly, it consists of "a ring of moist, luxurious coconut bundt cake" mixed with "chunks of sweet white chocolate," and is layered with "rich cream cheese frosting" and dusted with toasted coconut flakes.
The bakery is owned by mother and son duo Karen and Eric Doan, who remain grateful for Cruise's patronage and claim that his orders kept them in business through the pandemic.
While Cruise is known to not eat the cake himself on account of his strict diet, Karen has insisted that he had once tasted it when Diane Keaton and Katie Holmes had a contest over who knew of the best cake and Cruise was chosen to be the judge.
It was Keaton who had apparently introduced the cake to Cruise and he has been sending them out since.
