WASHINGTON, DC: MSNBC received backlash on Tuesday, October 14, for being the only major news network that did not air the Medal of Freedom ceremony for slain conservative icon Charlie Kirk.

The ceremony aired on major networks such as CNN, Fox News, ABC News, NBC News, NewsNation, Newsmax, One America News (OAN), and Right Side Broadcasting Network (RSBN).

MSNBC chooses to air a segment on Trump’s tariffs

Instead of airing the Medal of Freedom ceremony for Charlie Kirk, MSNBC chose to run a segment on the Trump administration’s new tariffs.

The move by the news network angered many conservatives, who slammed MSNBC on social media.

Republican commentator Eric Deters took to X and wrote, "In a pathetic, biased tantrum, MSNBC, the propaganda arm of the radical left, stands alone as the ONLY network boycotting President Trump’s heroic Medal of Freedom ceremony for Charlie Kirk, proving once again they’re too cowardly to cover real American patriotism." Similarly, other conservatives also called the decision "disgusting" and noted that even CNN aired the ceremony.

Eric Daugherty, Assistant News Director of Florida's Voice, wrote, "In a disgusting move, MSNBC is the LONE network refusing to air President Trump's Charlie Kirk Medal of Freedom ceremony. Instead, they are attacking Trump's tariffs and economy. Vile and filled with hate."

President Trump, who posthumously awarded Kirk the Medal of Freedom at the White House on Tuesday, said, "We’re here to honor and remember a fearless warrior for liberty, beloved leader who galvanized the next generation like nobody I’ve ever seen before."

"[He was] an American patriot of the deepest conviction, the finest quality and the highest caliber, the late, great Charlie Kirk," the POTUS added.

Meanwhile, Charlie Kirk's widow, Erika, paid an emotional tribute to her husband on Tuesday.

"He believed that liberty was both a right and a responsibility. And he used to say that freedom is the ability to do what is right without fear. And that’s how he lived," she said.

Erika added, "His name, Charles, literally means ‘free man.’ And that’s exactly who my husband was. From the time I met him, sitting across from him being interviewed about politics, philosophy and theology, I saw the fire in his soul. There was this divine restlessness within him that came from knowing God placed him on this earth to protect something very sacred. He never stopped fighting for people to experience freedom."

Looking back on his years building Turning Point USA, Erika said, "While he was building an organization, he was also building a movement, one that called people back to God, back to truth, and a movement that was filled with courage."

Internet slams MSNBC for not airing Medal of Freedom ceremony

Several internet users slammed MSNBC for being the only major news network not to air the Medal of Freedom ceremony for Charlie Kirk on October 14.

A user wrote on X, "And all 7 of their viewers loved it!" while another added, "MSNBC treating patriotism like it’s classified information."

One person stated, "How can they afford to stay on the air with their ratings?" while another mentioned, "Well, since they only have 6 viewers, does it really matter? You gave them more attention in one post than they received in 1 year."

Another user wrote, "Honestly, X gives MSNBC more views than they do themselves," while one commented, "It’s high time for @realDonaldTrump to remove @MSNBC and @NBCNews from all White House activities and stop members of your team from doing interviews on their air. They are enemies of America."

A person also added, "We need to stop listening. Stop posting. Stop replying. Stop watching. All of it. Let them become totally obsolete."
