TUCSON, ARIZONA: The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie has dominated headlines as new developments emerge. The Phoenix office of the FBI has released a description of a suspect, along with details about the backpack the person was carrying.

Authorities revealed that the suspect is approximately 5'9" to 5'10" tall. The bureau’s Operational Technology Division handled the review.

It has now been 12 days since Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of 'Today' show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing. She was last seen on the evening of January 31 at her home in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson after returning from a family dinner.

FBI shares suspect details, $100K reward

The FBI’s Phoenix office has released new identifying details about a suspect connected to the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. Along with the update, investigators shared images of an Ozark Trail Hiker Pack, which they said appears to be the same backpack seen on the suspect in surveillance video.

In a statement posted Thursday, February 12, officials described the individual as a man about 5 feet 9 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall with an average build. "New identifying details about the suspect in the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie have been confirmed after a forensic analysis of the doorbell camera footage by the FBI’s Operational Technology Division," FBI Phoenix wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

"The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’9” - 5’10” tall, with an average build. In the video, he is wearing a black, 25-liter ‘Ozark Trail Hiker Pack’ backpack. We hope this updated description will help concentrate the public tips we are receiving," the agency added.

The bureau said it has received more than 13,000 tips in the past 12 days, and agents are reviewing them. FBI Phoenix also raised the reward to $100,000 for information that helps find Nancy Guthrie or leads to an arrest. Previously, the amount was $50,000.

“Every tip is reviewed for credibility, relevance, and information that can be acted upon by law enforcement,” the post read. “Threat Intake Examiners at the National Threat Operations Center (NTOC) and FBI personnel are supporting a 24-hour command post in which dozens of agents and investigators are assigned leads and tips to action each shift.”

The message ended with a renewed call for help from the public: “Continue to submit information to the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or http://tips.fbi.gov to help us bring Nancy home.”

Investigation continues to find Nancy Guthrie

Police are continuing to search Nancy Guthrie's home in Tucson and nearby areas. They are also investigating the neighborhood where her daughter Annie lives. Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, told investigators he was the last person to see Nancy after dropping her off at home following a family dinner.

Kash Patel shared surveillance video that investigators say shows an armed suspect entering Nancy Guthrie’s home early on February 1. In the video, the person is wearing a jacket and gloves, walking with their head down, carrying a backpack and a weapon on their waist. Officials said the suspect tried to block the front door camera with a hand before attempting to shut it off. The camera stopped recording at 1:47 am.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said all items collected in the case are being tested, including a suspicious black glove.
