WASHINGTON, DC: An unusual question emerged during the White House press briefing on Wednesday, February 18, when a Newsmax correspondent asked Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt whether Trump believes in the existence of extraterrestrials.

This inquiry followed recent comments from Barack Obama about the statistical likelihood of life elsewhere in the universe, as well as remarks from Lara Trump suggesting the president might address the topic directly at some point.

Although the subject was lighthearted, the question was framed squarely: is there a speech in the works and does the administration hold a view on whether aliens are “real”?

During the briefing, Newsmax’s Mike Carter laid out the context before posing his question.

He referenced Obama’s recent comments indicating that extraterrestrial life is “real” in a statistical sense, although Obama stated he had never encountered evidence of such beings.

Carter then brought up Lara Trump’s interview with Miranda Devine of the New York Post, in which she suggested her father-in-law had prepared remarks touching on extraterrestrial life.

He asked, “Barack Obama was recently asked if aliens are real. He says they’re real, but he hasn’t seen them. President’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, told the New York Post that the president has a prepared speech on this issue that he plans to deliver at the right time. Is that true, and does the Trump administration believe aliens are real?”

Leavitt responded by indicating she had not been informed of any such prepared address.

“Well, a speech on aliens would be news to me. That sounds very exciting, though. I’ll have to check in with our speechwriting team. And that would be of great interest to me personally, and I’m sure all of you in this room, and apparently former President Obama too. So we’ll keep you posted on that,” she said.

Her answer did not confirm whether the president has drafted remarks on the subject, nor did she outline an official administration stance on extraterrestrial life. Instead, she characterized the possibility as something she would look into.

Lara Trump hints at future remarks

Earlier, Lara Trump spoke about the topic in an interview, suggesting that at some point the president may publicly address it.

“Then I have just heard just kind of around, I think he’s actually said it, I think my father-in-law actually said it that there is some speech that I guess at the right time, and I don’t know when the right time is, he’s gonna break out and talk about it. And it has to do with maybe some sort of extraterrestrial life, so to speak,” she said.

Her comments did not specify timing or details but indicated that the subject may have been discussed internally.
