Newsom says he’s ‘moving on’ from Joe Rogan right before pushing to be on his podcast again
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: California Gov Gavin Newsom wants everyone to know he’s over podcaster Joe Rogan, even though he can’t seem to stop talking about him.
During an interview with CNN’s Elex Michaelson, Newsom claimed he’s “moving on” from the king of podcasts, while simultaneously insinuating that Rogan is too scared to have him on 'The Joe Rogan Experience.'
Gavin Newsom mocks Joe Rogan as the ‘Facebook of podcasting’
It all started when Elex Michaelson played a clip from Joe Rogan’s October 18 episode with comedian Andrew Schultz, where Rogan said he wouldn’t have Gavin Newsom on the show because the governor would “cook himself.”

“For years and years, he’s been attacking me and it’s one way and he won’t have me on. He’s consistently not [had] me on. By the way, I’m moving on. I have no interest,” Newsom responded to the video. “Joe Rogan’s the Facebook of podcasting. He was sitting across one of the brightest minds in podcasting right now. The guy was in the mic and there are a lot of people at the mic doing extraordinary things in podcasting.”
Michaelson reminded Newsom that Rogan has “a pretty big audience.”
“You know what? But with all due respect, if he has a big audience, but he doesn’t have big enough confidence, I didn’t go there, to have me on,” Newsom shot back.

Gavin Newsom dares Joe Rogan to host a real debate
This isn’t Gavin Newsom’s first time taking aim at Joe Rogan. Just a week earlier, on October 10, he criticized the podcaster during an appearance on the 'Higher Learning' podcast, questioning why Rogan wouldn’t have him on after calling him a “bulls**t artist” who’s “ruined California.”
“I’m not afraid to go, I’m punching Joe Rogan, that son of a b***h is not used to that,” Newsom said. “He’s gonna dismiss it, he’s gonna laugh it off, tough guy and all that. But is he gonna have me on? I don’t know.”

Elex Michaelson called him out again during CNN interview, reminding Newsom that he’d essentially called Rogan a coward.
“But he’s been attacking [me] for, here’s the thing. These guys, they all have something in common. It’s one way they attack, they belittle, they demean, they take things out of context,” Newsom responded. “But this is a serious thing. So often we just sit back and go, ‘Oh God, I really would love to go on. If Kamala Harris just went on Joe Rogan, she would have won.’ It’s so much deeper than that.”
“The unwillingness for a guy like that to even have the common courtesy to attack someone and not have the decency to say, ‘You know what, why don’t you have a chance to come on? Let’s have a civil dialogue,’” Newsom continued. “I’ve watched you on podcasts with like Sean Ryan, who’s a close buddy of his. He had the courtesy, on, he had me on four hours. Sean Hannity, folks like that. So if I can go on Sean Ryan and Sean Hannity, what are you worried about? What are you, Joe, you’re going to cook me or I’m going to cook myself.”
Joe Rogan hosts Trump and Elon Musk as Newsom questions his fairness
While Gavin Newsom accuses Joe Rogan of being selective about his guests, the podcaster’s track record suggests otherwise. Rogan’s Spotify show remains the platform’s No 1 podcast, drawing between 16 and 24 million downloads per month. Over the years, he has hosted an eclectic mix of guests, from Elon Musk to Bernie Sanders, for hours-long, unfiltered conversations.
Rogan even interviewed President Donald Trump right before Election Day last year. He also extended an invitation to then–Vice President Kamala Harris, though she ultimately did not commit.
Her campaign later claimed Rogan’s team had canceled because it was his “personal day.” Rogan called that a “flat-out lie,” explaining that Trump’s interview had been booked for that date “a while ago” and that the timing was pure coincidence.
