LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Taylor Swift is stealing the spotlight once again, but this time it’s not for her music—it's for her prominent role in the NFL's new promo for the 2024 season.

As the highly anticipated kickoff of the NFL season approaches, fans are up in arms over the video’s heavy focus on Swift, who appears five times, overshadowing the league’s top players, including Patrick Mahomes.

From celebrating with Travis Kelce’s mother to enjoying the Super Bowl, Swift’s extensive screen time has sparked outrage among football purists, who feel the pop star is being given undue prominence.

Dedicated football enthusiasts were already irked by the extensive media coverage Swift received while attending Kansas City Chiefs games with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, last season. Now, with the 2024 season about to kick off—featuring the defending Super Bowl champions, Kansas City Chiefs, against the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday, September 5—the NFL has drawn criticism for showcasing Swift more prominently than any other player in its latest promo.

The video, which highlights key moments from the 2023 season, features Swift an impressive five times. It shows her celebrating with Kelce’s mom Donna at Arrowhead Stadium in September, arriving at a game in a custom 'Kelce 87' Chiefs jacket in January, sharing a kiss with Travis after the AFC Championship victory, and enjoying a beer at the Super Bowl in February.

In contrast, notable players like San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow don’t make any appearance in the video. Other high-profile quarterbacks, including CJ Stroud (Houston Texans), Matthew Stafford (LA Rams), and Jordan Love (Green Bay Packers), are also missing from the promo.

Despite being a major NFL figure, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is featured only briefly at the end of the video, lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

The heavy focus on Swift has sparked outrage among NFL fans, who have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to express their dissatisfaction.

It remains to be seen whether Swift will attend the Chiefs' first game of the season against the Ravens in Kansas City on Thursday. Her next scheduled international tour date is not until October 18 in Miami, so she may have the opportunity to support Kelce at Arrowhead.

Internet fumes over Taylor Swift being featured five times in NFL promo

After discovering Taylor Swift’s extensive screen time in the NFL promo while prominent players got sidelined, social media users criticized the league.

One user wrote, “Why the f**k was taylor swift in a nfl promo not once but FIVE times."

The second said, "F**k her and NFL for letting them do this s**t every touchdown I gotta see her reaction bs."

While the third noted, "NFL is getting destroyed for the 30 second chief promo for Thursday's game. They show taylor swift five times. Mahomes once."

The fourth asked, "Will you guys be bringing back the $5 a day promo for the first weeks of NFL??"

One fan said, "I love T-Swift but man... you can put her once in an NFL promo but like not five times."

Another slammed, "What a s***ty promo."

One more person said, "I thought this was supposed to be a promo for the nfl, not Taylor Swift."

Someone else added, "Yes, and I'm sure true football fans are doing TD dances after seeing a over publicized pop star 5 times in a promo for the toughest sport in America. 🙄"

One user stated, "Correct football is back therefore there’s no reason to show Taylor swift that many times in a promo for the NFL. It’s gonna be another long season 🤦🏼‍♀️"

One individual said, "It's called MARKETING...maybe it's a new concept to you but the NFL is a for profit business and as such is using literally the most famous person on the planet in their promo video.  Pretty simple concept actually."

One individual remarked, "Dear NFL, We the Fans are tired of this Taylor Swift agenda. I get you’re trying to reach to a newer demographic and I’m fine by that, but you’re pushing too hard She does NOT need to be shown 5 times in a promo over other NFL players."

A comment read, "Showing Taylor Swift five times in this promo is excessive!"
