LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicki Minaj is requested to testify in court by the lawyers of the man who caused the death of the ‘Anaconda’ singer’s father in a hit-and-run accident in February 2021.

Charles Polevich, 70, was earlier found guilty of hitting Minaj’s father Robert Maraj, who was 64 then, in the accident. After striking Maraj, Polevich briefly stopped the car but then sped away, per OK! Magazine.

Though Maraj was taken to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries several hours later.

Currently, Polevich is awaiting his sentencing hearing. However, before the hearing, the man was sued by the rapper’s mother, Carol, who accused Polevich of leaving her husband "like a dog on the street" to die.

Carol further claimed that Polevich’s action caused her to lose the "services, society, comfort, companionship and consortium” of her husband and sued Polevich in the pricey $150 million lawsuit.

While Polevich acknowledged the lapse on his part, he also alleged that Maraj had been "reckless, careless and negligent in crossing the street."

He, nevertheless, admitted that he had been "heartsick since realizing the extent of the tragedy" and insisted there was "no excuse" for his behavior.

As the elderly man is fighting Carol’s lawsuit, his attorney said, "My client empathizes with the family," before adding, "The question of whether there was negligence and degrees of negligence will be determined by the court. The $150 million amount seems to be over the top."

Polevich’s legal team is now petitioning for Minaj to sit for a deposition on the basis of a few claims she made in a song.

Per the court documents obtained by RadarOnline, the lawyers are requesting the ‘Barbie World’ singer’s deposition regarding the claims she made about her father's allegedly abusive tendencies in a song.

The lawyers shared that the proposed deposition "involves questions wherein the issue of domestic abuse is discussed."

In the legal filing, the lawyers continued, "[Carol] acknowledges that statements related to the topic of domestic abuse were made by" Nicki, before adding, "but [Carol] does not offer meaningful responses regarding the veracity of the statements made" by her songstress-daughter.

While defending against the $150 million lawsuit, they further propounded that Minaj has the "knowledge and information that is material and necessary to the defense of the claims set forth in this action."

Carol’s attorneys have fired back at Polevich’s request, arguing the 'Anaconda' rapper was not a part of the lawsuit and "to have her testify as to musical lyrics, which could be completely made up, false, and taken out of context, was a waste of time and borderline harassment for the family."

This is, however, not the only brush with the law that Nicki Minaj’s family is having at the moment.

Recently, it came to fans’ notice that the 41-year-old rapper’s husband, Kenneth Petty, has got an updated photo on the California Megan’s Law website, which lists all sex offenders in the state with their whereabouts.

Petty has been registered as a sex offender after a purported incident in 1994. Petty, then 16, was found guilty of first-degree attempted rape of a 16-year-old girl named Jennifer Hough, per RadarOnline.

Even though he managed to wring himself out of the attempted rape allegation, he was eventually sentenced to four years in prison.
