Nicole Kidman dishes on crucial role bathroom appliances play in 18-year marriage to Keith Urban
FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE: Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have spent nearly two decades defying the odds of celebrity marriages.
Now, the Hollywood power couple is revealing the surprisingly simple secret to their relationship’s success: their bathroom setup, as revealed in her recent W Magazine cover story.
Key to Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's successful marriage
In her W cover story, the Oscar-winning actress cheekily shared what keeps their marriage thriving after 18 years together. “We have a double shower,” Kidman, 57, confessed. “The double-headed shower: key to a successful marriage," she continued.
But the magic doesn’t end there. Kidman also credited the couple’s harmonious bond to another practical feature of their home: “separate commodes.” Yes, separate toilets.
The 'Babygirl' star explained that their bathroom setup is more than just a functional arrangement—it’s also where creativity flows, quite literally.
“I’ll hear his new songs forming,” she revealed, referring to her husband’s knack for crafting music while in the shower.
Kidman and Urban, also 57, tied the knot in June 2006 and share two daughters, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13.
Reflecting on their enduring romance, the Emmy winner shared how these small domestic choices have helped create a foundation of love and respect.

Urban has also been vocal about his adoration for Kidman when the couple celebrated their 13th wedding anniversary in 2019.
Urban posted an Instagram tribute to their relationship, writing, “Thirteen years of magic, music, romance, wild adventures, and the ongoing discovery of pure love. Happy Anniversary Babygirl. xxxx - KU."
While Kidman’s playful revelation might seem unconventional, it highlights a growing trend among celebrity couples.
Carson Daly and Barbara Corcoran advocate separate bedrooms for long-lasting marriage
In April 2024, 'Today' co-host Carson Daly told People that he and his wife Siri Pinter are “sleep divorced” and only sleep in the same bed a couple of days a week.
"The object is to stay together. That's what we'd like to do. And so reverse engineering that, it's like — by any means necessary, for the two of us, [we want to] still be in a relationship when we're dying,” Daly revealed.
“It's been good for us,” he admitted and added, “We don't do it all the time, but a couple of days during the week — especially if I want to watch an Islanders hockey game kind of later at night — I go into the guest room, she retires upstairs to read her book or watch a show."
They part on a “Goodnight, I’ll see you tomorrow,” and Daly says “It just takes a lot of attention out and it works. So I highly recommend sleep divorce.”
Barbara Corcoran of 'Shark Tank' fame echoed similar sentiments in March 2024, when she revealed on 'Today' that she and her husband, Bill Higgins, have had separate bedrooms for over 40 years.
"I've had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years," Corcoran said, adding, “I have to invite him in — he invites me in occasionally,” the 'Shark Tank' alum, 75, said.
She later doubled down on her endorsement during a Jamie Kern Lima Show episode, calling it a way to “make things fun” and add “sexiness” to their marriage.
Again in December 2024, she told People, "I think there's something to be said about your own private space."
"I lead a very busy life. I have a huge family that I'm always entertaining. I have very sincere, active friends and so what I need more than anything else is a respite, and my husband is not relaxing," she said.
