Nicole Scherzinger apologizes after backlash for commenting on Russell Brand's post with Trump reference
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicole Scherzinger is apologizing to her fans for the “hurt” caused by her “recent engagement with some social media posts.”
The 46-year-old songstress recently clarified her stance after she faced immense criticism from her fans for commenting on Russell Brand’s post featuring a red hat with a slogan referencing Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ catchline.
Following the controversy, the former member of ‘The Pussycat Dolls’ took to her Instagram Stories on Friday, November 8, to break the silence on the controversy and explain her take on the matter.
Nicole Scherzinger sparked controversy after commenting on Russell Brand’s post
Nicole Scherzinger initially courted controversy on Thursday, November 7, after she left a now-deleted comment on Russell Brand’s post where he was holding a MAGA-like red hat with the caption, "Make Jesus First Again." Brand captioned the post with, “God Bless America.”
In the comment section of Brand’s post, Nicole, meanwhile, showed her appreciation for the accessory and wrote, "Where do I get this hat!!!?" alongside the red heart and prayer hands emojis.

Though she did not like the post, her appreciation for the hat, angered several of her fans, as reported by Daily Mail.
Her stance, however, did not sit well with her fans, who called her out for “coming out as a Donald Trump supporter.”
The singer is now clarifying her stance as she put up a long note on her Instagram Story, writing, “I deeply apologize for the hurt caused by my recent engagement with some social media posts.”
Nicole confessed that she unknowingly commented on the post, saying that she did not realize the implications her words would have on the current political scenario.
“When I commented on these posts, I made the mistake of not realizing that they could be easily interpreted as being politically related and I apologize to anyone who understandably reached that conclusion,” wrote the ‘Hush hush’ singer.
She further explained that while the netizens have jumped to their conclusions regarding her political preference, her comment - in no way - reflected her stance.
“Many of the marginalized communities feeling hurt and concerned by the results of the presidential election are people I care about most. I stand with them, as I always have, throughout my life and career,” Nicole added before continuing, “If you know me, you know that.”
The songstress further revealed that for her the hat represented her faith in God, and not the political implications it otherwise made.
She reasoned that though the headgear’s caption was modeled upon Trump’s election slogan, "Make America Great Again,” for her, the caption on Brand’s hat was just a reflection of her faith.
“Like so many others, in times of adversity and uncertainty, I turn to my faith. I believed that the posts I engaged with were about encouraging people to choose love and faith - "putting Jesus first." For me Christ embodies peace, compassion, hope, and - above all - unconditional love, especially for those who may feel it the least right now,” wrote Nicole in her Instagram post.
She continued, “I come from a place of love, and I will always support values that bring us closer together,” and elaborated on the teachings of her faith, “It's so important we come together with compassion, and love one another more now than ever.”
Nicole Scherzinger received backlash for her comment
Following the comment, Nicole Scherzinger suddenly found herself at the receiving end of the internet's ire as they slammed her for "coming out" as a Donald Trump supporter.
Though Brand made the post just hours before Trump was declared to be the winner of the Presidential election, Nicole received backlash as fans assumed she voted for the Republican President-elect.
One of the fans commented, "Nicole Scherzinger coming out as a trump supporter makes perfect sense."
