Jonathan Owens called himself the 'catch' during podcast appearance
The criticism stems from comments Owens made during a December 19 appearance with Biles on 'The Pivot Podcast'. hosted by former NFL players. When asked if he saw himself as the "catch" early in his relationship with Biles, Owens agreed, stating, "I always say that the men are the catch."
Moreover, Owens indicated he was not ready to fully commit when they initially started dating because he was focused on building his NFL career, as per Bustle.
Many fans took issue with Owens' comments, arguing on social media that Biles, with her record-breaking Olympic gymnastics career, was clearly the bigger catch in the relationship. Some even went so far as to call Owens "a red flag."
Wait… didn’t they marry literally less than 12months ago!?

What the hell has happened so quickly into their marriage?
Hoping she’s well, and hoping that she recognises that a red flag🚩 so early, is probably a good time to call it a day and divorce and move on#SimoneBiles 🤷🏾♂️ https://t.co/XsdqdBuV7H pic.twitter.com/47JJtfkv8J
Simone Biles comes to husband Jonathan Owens' defense on social media
After days of escalating criticism, Biles took to social media herself to defend Owens. The gymnastic legend posted a meme of a confused child with the caption "Are y'all done yet?" showing her exasperation with the attacks on her husband.
Despite assertions that Owens was punching above his weight by marrying Biles, she jumped to his defense during the podcast interview itself.
When one host suggested Owens may never achieve her level of dominance in his sport, Biles insisted he could, saying, "In a couple years nobody is going to call him Simone Biles' husband, they'll call me Jonathan Owens' wife.”
Internet 'feels sad' for Simone Biles after she defends Jonathan Owens' remarks
Biles' defense of Owens generated a fresh wave of reactions on social media from fans confounded she would stand by him.
Amid the fervor, one user empathetically expressed, "Girl, we tryna defend you." Another empathized with the gymnast's situation, saying, "I feel so sad for her."
However, the responses were not unanimously sympathetic. A skeptical user simply remarked, "I don't see this relationship lasting. Okay, now I am done."
A staunch supporter of Biles chimed in, asserting, "No, we are not done. That man deserves it for disrespecting you. I am so sick and tired of women marrying losers and defending them."
