KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE: Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley reacted to former President Donald Trump's bizarre remark pointing fingers at her for the January 6 Capitol insurrection, reported The Hill.

The GOP frontrunner's speech in Concord, New Hampshire, on January 19 raised concerns among many about the possibility of his cognitive decline.

"Last night, Trump was at a rally," the former South Carolina Governor said while speaking to a crowd in Keene, New Hampshire, on Saturday, January 20. "And he's going on and on, mentioning me multiple times as to why I didn't take security during the Capitol riots, why I didn't handle January 6 better. I wasn't even in DC on January 6. I wasn't in office then."

Rambling Haley's name thrice while claiming the January 6 Select Committee destroyed the evidence, Trump on Friday said, "All of it because of lots of things like Nikki Haley is in charge of security. We offered her 10,000 people."

Haley is campaigning to add momentum to her voter support ahead of the primary on January 23, posing a tough competition to the ex-president in the Granite state. Furthermore, endorsement from NH Gov Chris Christie is an added advantage for the former UN Ambassador.

Nikki Haley says a 'mentally unfit' person is not suitable for presidency

Amid rising verbal attacks from Trump, Haley responded rather softly to her rival's name mix-up.

"They're saying he got confused, that he was talking about something else, he's talking about Nancy Pelosi, he mentioned me multiple times in that scenario," she said.

Adding her concern about Trump's fitness to hold the President's office, Haley continued, "The concern I have is, I'm not saying anything derogatory, but when you're dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can't have someone else that we question whether they're mentally fit to do this."

Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi was the House speaker on January 6, 2021, when pro-Trump protestors flocked to the Capitol Building in Washington DC to prevent the Congress from certifying Joe Biden's 2020 election victory.

Trump is indicted for the same in his role in instigating the insurrection to overturn 2020 election results, an allegation which has affected his candidacy in the upcoming Colorado and Maine GOP primary.

Internet dissatisfied with Nikki Haley's late attacks

Frustrated with the too-late attack against Trump, netizens mocked Haley, reminding her that the remarks might not reflect positively in the vote share.

One user wrote, "That's not enough to change the vote."

Another user noted, "Almost as if Trump had to say Haley’s name for Haley to notice Trump is not mentally fit. Finally, brava!"

"She COULD have done this 6 months ago," added a third user. While a fourth response read, "This won’t stop her from endorsing him and voting for him the minute she drops out."

One user remarked, "I think she finally figured out that she will not be on the ticket with him."

"Don’t worry, she’ll endorse him eventually," read another reaction. Another user said, "Pretty close to criticizing Trump."
