‘Of course, I was gonna say yes’: Brooke Shields recalls invitation to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' wedding amid past dispute

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Brooke Shields has opened up about the time when she was invited to the wedding function of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes.

Before his wedding to the 45-year-old actress in 2006, Shields and Cruise had an issue between them.

As per reports, the 61-year-old actor called out the ‘Pretty Baby’ star for taking antidepressants following the delivery of her first daughter.

The ‘Top Gun’ actor said, as reported by TIME, “Here is a woman — and I care about Brooke Shields because she is an incredibly talented woman — where has her career gone?... These drugs are dangerous.”

However, later in 2006, as reported by CBS News, Shields stated that Cruise apologized, saying, "He came over to my house, and he gave me a heartfelt apology. And he apologized for involving me in the whole situation and for everything that happened."

“And through it all, I was so impressed with how heartfelt it was. And I didn't feel at any time that I had to defend myself, nor did I feel that he was trying to convince me of anything other than the fact that he was deeply sorry. And I accepted it,” the actress added at the time.

Cruise's spokesperson Arnold Robinson also added, “It is true that his friendship with Ms. Shields has been mended. He has not changed his position about antidepressants, which as evidenced by the black label warnings issued by the FDA on these types of drugs, are unhealthy.”

Following that, Shields even attended Cruise's wedding to Holmes in Italy.

She recently told Entertainment Weekly, “Of course, I was gonna say yes to that. I was like, 'Yes. I will — as long as I'm not the something old!’”

The mother-of-two even shared that the ‘Dawson's Creek’ actress requested her as well to witness their now-broken-up nuptial.

“She goes, 'Oh, will you?' And I said, 'What? Bring myself as the something old?’”

Shields continued, “I had to, like, hunt antique places to find the perfect, you know, gift to give her.”

She then disclosed what she had gifted to the former couple. 

“It was a little compact that you put a ring…So you're supposed to be able to look at their reflection in it and have it around their finger. It was really beautiful,” Shields added.
