Oscars In Memoriam segment excludes James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane after their deaths in February
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 98th Academy Awards remembrance segment left out James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane, who died last month. Their names, however, were listed on the official Oscars website.
Beek was 48 when he died on February 11 because of colorectal cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2023.
Dane died at the age of 53 on February 19 from respiratory failure. He was suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
Exclusion of James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane enrages fans
The exclusion of both actors from the "In Memoriam" segment left their fans furious.
One person posted on X (formerly Twitter), “They left so many people out of the in memoriam package. I can’t believe they didn’t even have Eric Dane or James Van Der Beek. I know they weren’t exactly the Oscars type but they were extremely recent and a sudden shock to a lot of the young generation #Oscars #InMemoriam.”
