LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 98th Academy Awards remembrance segment left out James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane, who died last month. Their names, however, were listed on the official Oscars website.

Beek was 48 when he died on February 11 because of colorectal cancer. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2023.

Exclusion of James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane enrages fans

The exclusion of both actors from the "In Memoriam" segment left their fans furious.

One person posted on X (formerly Twitter), “They left so many people out of the in memoriam package. I can’t believe they didn’t even have Eric Dane or James Van Der Beek. I know they weren’t exactly the Oscars type but they were extremely recent and a sudden shock to a lot of the young generation #Oscars #InMemoriam.”

Another person raged, “The ‘In Memoriam’ piece on the Oscars included a Japanese actor who played the villain in the Original Mortal Combat movie, but omitted James Van Der Beek completely.”

“Wow! #Oscars you missed the mark on who you left out of the In Memoriam. Although included on your website you left out James Van Der Beek, Robert Carradine, Richard Chamberlain, Eric Dane, Brigitte Bardot who all deserved to be on camera!” one more expressed.

A post on X read, “Only criticism I have with the In Memoriam is that they didn’t mention Gene Hackman, Eric Dane nor James Van der Beek.”

“No James Van Der Beek, no Eric Dane, No Michelle Trachtenberg...really #Oscars !!?? Don't tell us y'all ran out of time,” another angry comment read.

A fan commented, “I know every year, the Oscars leaves out a few people who passed away. But these 3 were so recent. I'm sad they left out, James Van Der Beek, Eric Dane, and, Robert Carradine. RIP.”

Rachel McAdams says Diane Keaton inspired many 'with her absolute singularity'

Meanwhile, as per reports, the 2026 Oscars' “In Memoriam” segment was 15 minutes long and saw the mention of notable figures like Rob Reiner, Diane Keaton, and Robert Redford.

Rachel McAdams, who starred with Keaton in 'The Family Stone', said during her tribute, "This past year, we lost so many artists, including actresses whose talent and originality widened the world for all of us."

"Believe me when I say there isn’t an actress of my generation who isn’t inspired by and enthralled with her absolute singularity," she added.

'The Notebook' actress described Keaton as a multifaceted talent who “wore so many hats, literally and figuratively,” calling her “a legend with no end.”

McAdams also spoke about the many roles Keaton fulfilled throughout her life, including “actress, artist, author, and activist.” She ended the tribute with an emotional farewell: "And so to our friend, Diane Keaton, celebrating a life in silver and gold, a legend with no end."

The 'Annie Hall' actress died on October 11 from pneumonia at the age of 79.
