Internet divided as Pentagon reveals US Navy sailor tried to illegally access Joe Biden’s medical records
WASHINGTON, DC: A US Navy sailor was caught making unauthorized attempts to access President Joe Biden's official health records three times in February, the Pentagon announced on Tuesday, July 9.
The individual, who remains unnamed, tried to pull up the 81-year-old incumbent president's restricted medical file by searching through an internal government database on February 23.

This occurred five days before presidential physician Dr Kevin O'Connor publicly disclosed the results of President Biden's annual physical examination, according to the New York Post.
What did Pentagon reveal about service member who tried to access Biden’s medical records?
Navy spokesman Commander Tim Hawkins said in a statement, “A sailor assigned to [Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command in Fort Belvoir, Va.] searched the name ‘Joseph Biden’ in MHS Genesis, the Military Health System’s electronic health record, out of curiosity.”
“A co-worker reported the sailor’s breach of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),” he stated.

The announcement comes as anxiety and worries continue regarding the Commander-in-Chief's health and mental capacity following his lackluster performance in the June 27 presidential debate against his predecessor, former President Donald Trump.
The Pentagon’s press secretary, Air Force Brigadier General Pat Ryder claimed, “The record that the sailor inappropriately accessed was not the electronic health record of the president of the United States.”
“The Secretary [of Defense] was notified in February when the Navy became aware,” Ryder added. “The Navy also notified the White House through channels at the time.”

When the Navy Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) learned of the data breach, it initiated an investigation, which Hawkins said concluded on April 24.
“The MHS Genesis system is a secure health system and at no time was the President’s personal information compromised,” he asserted.
The individual responsible received an administrative punishment and is still working as an active-duty sailor, as per a report from ABC News quoting US officials.

The announcement on Tuesday validates yet another security breach by a member of the military.
In March, Jack Teixeira, a former member of the Massachusetts National Guard, was given a 16-year prison sentence for unlawfully accessing classified military plans related to Russia's war with Ukraine and releasing them online.
