Pregnant Gisele Bundchen wants Shakira to be godmother to her baby as she bonds with singer after divorce

MIAMI, FLORIDA: As Gisele Bundchen prepares to welcome her new baby with jiu-jitsu trainer boyfriend, Joaquim Valente, the Brazilian supermodel has found unexpected support from a fellow South American icon, Shakira.

Sources reveal that Bundchen, 44, has grown so close to the Colombian singer, 47, that she has expressed a strong desire for Shakira to be the godmother to her upcoming child.

Navigating high-profile breakups - Gisele Bundchen from NFL legend Tom Brady and Shakira from soccer star Gerard Pique, both women found comfort in each other's company after Shakira moved to Miami with her sons, Milan and Sasha.

A source noted, "Shakira and Gisele really bonded these past couple of years. They've helped each other through their breakups and the friendship has been something of a saving grace for them both." 

Bundchen, who also resides in Miami with her children, has reportedly leaned heavily on Shakira as a source of emotional support throughout her pregnancy.

"And now that Gisele is pregnant, she's leaning on Shakira even more. They talk all the time, no matter where they are in the world," the insider said.

Known for being private and selective about who she lets into her inner circle, Bundchen has made an exception for Shakira.

"Gisele doesn't have a ton of close girlfriends, and it's rare for her to let anyone new in," the source continued.

"But Shakira is in her inner circle now, and she’s talking about wanting to give her the honor of being one of her baby's godmothers. It says a lot about how much she values Shakira that she wants to make her a part of this," the insider spilled.

Tom Brady knew about Gisele Bundchen's pregnancy before public announcement

Tom Brady was reportedly the first to know about his ex-wife Gisele Bundchen’s pregnancy with Joaquim Valente’s child, ahead of the public announcement. The 44-year-old supermodel shared the news privately with Brady, as well as with their two children, Benjamin (14) and Vivian (11), before the media caught wind of it, per TMZ.

Sources close to the family confirmed that Brady, who shares two children with Bundchen, was informed by her about the pregnancy before it was made public.

This comes two years after the couple separated and finalized their divorce in October 2022. Brady, 46, also has a son, Jack, from his previous relationship with Bridget Moynahan.

Bundchen and Brady’s divorce was amicable, with both expressing gratitude for their 13-year marriage. Brady wrote in an Instagram post at the time of the split:

“In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage. We arrived at this decision amicably and with gratitude for the time we spent together.”

Bundchen wrote, "The decision to end a marriage is never easy but we have grown apart and while it is, of course, difficult to go through something like this, I feel blessed for the time we had together and only wish the best for Tom always.”

Bundchen confirmed her relationship with Joaquim Valente in March 2024, sharing that their bond was based on friendship first. “This is the first time I am seeing someone that was a friend of mine first. It’s very different, It is very honest, and it’s very transparent,” she told The New York Times.

An insider close to Bundchen and Valente told People that they are excited for the new chapter in their lives. "Gisele and Joaquim are happy for this new chapter in their life and they're looking forward to creating a peaceful and loving environment for the whole family.”
