Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's potential move back to England depends on one condition
LONDON, UK: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly contemplating a return to the United Kingdom, but their potential homecoming might come with a significant caveat—reconciliation with the royal family.
Sources suggest that while the couple is considering a return, they might need to extend an olive branch and offer an apology to the royal family before resuming any official duties.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly eyeing return to England
A royal insider revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are contemplating this move as a strategic decision, especially considering Harry's ongoing legal battles.
"The simplest way to get the protection he wants is to become a working member of the royal family again," the source explained.
This news follows Harry and Meghan's recent travels, including a four-day trip to Colombia and a visit to Nigeria in May.
During these trips, Harry highlighted the significance of engaging directly with people to drive positive change, underscoring the couple's continued dedication to their humanitarian work.
However, the prospect of returning to royal duties may not be straightforward.
The insider noted, "Charles and William may be open to reconciliation, if for no other reason than to have two more people for official duties, especially in places no one else wants to go. But Harry and Meghan are definitely going to have to apologize. This rift won’t heal overnight. And at this point, they need the royals more than the royals need them."
The possibility of Harry returning to the UK permanently has been a topic of speculation for some time.
In July, royal historian Hugo Vickers suggested that Harry might eventually come back to his homeland, even if it means leaving Meghan behind. Speaking on The Sun's 'Royal Exclusive' podcast, Vickers said, "I think he'll come home, and if he comes home, we must be very nice to him because he won't particularly want to. He's quite angry I think."
Vickers also noted that King Charles III has kept the door open for Harry’s return, highlighting that the Duke was performing well before he stepped back from his royal duties.
"The King has left the door wide open for him to do that, and he was doing such a good job before and... he looked so happy," Vickers noted.
The author further elaborated on Harry's emotional state, suggesting that the Duke's current predicament may be influenced by his fear of losing Meghan.
"Usually, you're happy when you're doing your duty and you're doing it for other people... I personally think that he looks like he's petrified of losing her [Meghan] and looks slightly petrified of her," Vickers observed.
Currently, the couple has not been to the UK together since Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral on September 19, 2022.
Prince William and Harry's rift deepens as memoir criticisms and lack of communication persist
Prince William and Prince Harry remain "estranged," with reports indicating that the brothers have not spoken to each other for nearly two years.
The rift between them is said to have been exacerbated by Harry's memoir 'Spare', which contained critical remarks about the royal family and its members.
According to sources, the royal siblings have not exchanged any words since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022, which is considered "dreadfully sad" by those close to them.
Harry's memoir has played a significant role in the brothers' estrangement, featuring sharp critiques of the royal family, including remarks about Kate Middleton, which have reportedly intensified the rift.
Despite efforts by Harry and Meghan Markle to reach out, including after Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, there has been no noticeable improvement in the relationship.
Harry’s visit to London in May for an Invictus Games event did not include a meeting with his father, King Charles, underscoring ongoing tensions.
