LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince Harry reflects on deep sadness over the possibility that his children may never get to know his homeland.

This came soon after the Duke of Sussex lost his legal appeal on Friday, May 2, over the removal of his government-funded police protection in the UK.

In the wake of the ruling, Harry said he can no longer safely bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to Britain.

Prince Harry says security ruling makes return to UK with children impossible

After losing his appeal over UK security, Prince Harry opened up about the strain the royal rift has placed on him and his family as he continues to seek reconciliation.

“I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point,” Harry disclosed in an interview with the BBC.

Harry, who considers the UK his home and served a decade in the British military, admitted how deeply the court’s decision affects his children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.

“The things that they’re going to miss is, well, everything,” Harry said. “I love my country. I always have done. Despite what some people in that country have done.”

Prince Harry also revealed how much he misses the UK and the sorrow he feels about not being able to share it with his family.

“I miss the UK, I miss parts of the UK, of course I do,” Harry said. “I think that it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland."

Commenting on the court decision, Harry said, “Obviously pretty gutted about the decision. We thought it was going to go our way. But it certainly is proven that there is no way to win this through the courts, which someone had told me about beforehand.”

He described the judgment as “a surprise as well as not a surprise,” and said, “For the time being, it’s impossible for me to bring my family back to the UK," as per the Mirror.

Prince Harry also spoke about his strained relationship with the royal family and the emotional toll it has taken. He sought reconciliation amid a lost bid for security, emphasizing he doesn't know how much King Charles has left to live, amid his cancer treatment.

“I would love reconciliation with my family. As I said, life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has, you know, he won't speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile,” Harry said.

“If they don’t want that, that’s entirely up to them,” he added. But he admitted, “Some members of my family will never forgive me" for his memoir 'Spare'.

Possibly hinting at not taking the case to the Supreme Court, he said, “There's no point in continuing to fight anymore.”

He also added, “I don't want any battles to continue. There is way too much suffering and way too much conflict in the world. This, at the heart of it, is a family dispute.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and moved to Montecito, California. Since then, Harry has been fighting for reinstated security in the UK.

The May 2 ruling confirmed that his security will now be decided on a case-by-case basis, ending his hopes for automatic protection during UK visits.
