Prince Harry set to regain UK armed security, paving way for Archie and Lilibet visit King Charles
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: Prince Harry appears close to winning a major security battle in the UK after a new official review found he meets the criteria for taxpayer-funded armed protection during his visits, a status he lost after stepping back from royal duties. According to insiders, the government is likely to reinstate his full security.
Prince Harry poised to regain armed security
According to a report in The Daily Mail published on Sunday, January 4, the committee had found that the criteria for the top-level security measures had been met.
A source close to Harry was quoted as saying, 'It’s now a formality. Sources at the Home Office have indicated that security is nailed on for Harry.'
There is now a belief that unless there is a last-minute objection, the Duke will be granted armed protection and official support similar to what he received as a working royal.
Harry has asserted several times that without such security cover, he is unable to bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their two children, Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, to the country of his birth, insisting it is unsafe to do so.
This change could allow Harry to bring his children, who are now living in California, to the UK to spend time with his father, King Charles.
Prince Harry's UK security under review
After several years of campaigning by the Duke of Sussex, including a high-profile court battle, which he lost, a full-scale review was granted in December.
This led to an official risk assessment conducted by the Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC), which decides who receives security. The committee includes members from the Home Office, the Metropolitan Police, and the royal household.
Harry’s spokesperson declined to comment on the matter, saying that security matters are not publicly discussed.
A government spokesperson added in a statement, “The UK Government’s protective security system is rigorous and proportionate. It is our long-standing policy not to provide detailed information on those arrangements, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect individual's security.”
Stalker incident spurs Prince Harry's security appeal
It was reported on October 6 last year that a female stalker came within feet of Prince Harry during a charity visit to the UK.
Harry lost his full security cover in 2020 when he and Meghan stepped back from frontline royal duties.
In May 2025, he lost an appeal over the issue, but in October 2025, Harry made another approach, submitting a personal appeal to the Home Secretary, Shabana Mahmood, who is responsible for policing and crime prevention in Britain.
