Prince William sacks Queen Camilla's interior designer sister Annabel Elliot after 20 years of service
LONDON, UK: Prince William has decided not to rehire Queen Camilla's sister Annabel Elliot as an interior designer for the Duchy of Cornwall.
The estate, a 700-year-old property that provides income for the heir to the throne, revealed in its latest Integrated Annual Report that Elliot's design services were not retained for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, as reported by PEOPLE.
Queen Camilla's sister Annabel Elliot no longer employed by Duchy of Cornwall
According to The Telegraph, "Sources confirmed that Prince William would no longer employ Ms Elliot, although it was no reflection on her work." These sources added that Elliot's work was considered complete and that the staff had sufficiently learned from her expertise.
Annabel Elliot, 75, was brought in by King Charles as the chief designer of his estates following his marriage to Camilla in 2005. Throughout the years, she was paid several hundred thousand dollars for her contributions through the Duchy of Cornwall, which Charles controlled until he became King in September 2022.
The report detailed, "During the period to 8th September 2022 the Duchy paid Mrs Annabel Elliot, the 24th Duke of Cornwall’s sister-in-law, in the normal course of business and on an arm’s length basis £19,625 [$25,276.51] for fees and commission and £12,316 [$15,862.70] for the purchase of furniture, furnishings and retail stock for the Duchy of Cornwall Holiday accommodation, Duchy offices and Duchy Nursery."
The latest annual report, published on July 24, noted that there was no remaining balance payable to Elliot as of March 31, 2024.
Elliot’s work included decorating and updating properties across the Duchy of Cornwall’s luxury rental cottages in Cornwall, Wales, and the Isles of Scilly. She was compensated for her commission and reimbursed for furniture, furnishings, and retail stock. Notably, the duchy's design contracts were not open to bids, giving Elliot a unique position in the royal job market.
She is described on her company’s website as an "internationally renowned interior designer, decorator, and antiques dealer."
Prince William earns $30M in his first year as Duke of Cornwall
This report marks Prince William's first full year managing the Duchy of Cornwall as the new Duke of Cornwall.
A key highlight was his receipt of $30 million from the estate's first full year's income. This income supports the annual official, charitable, and private expenditures for William, his wife Kate Middleton, and their children.
The vast Duchy of Cornwall spans 130,000 acres across 23 counties in England and Wales, encompassing farmland, property, and commercial businesses worth over $1 billion.
While Prince William pays income tax on his earnings from the duchy, he has not disclosed the specific tax amount, a practice previously followed by his father King Charles.
