LONDON, ENGLAND: Prince William and Kate Middleton want their three children to lead a normal life despite their royal status.

This explains why Princess Charlotte has a secret identity at school so that she can blend in with the other pupils.

The only daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales goes by the name Charlotte Cambridge among her classmates, according to The Mirror.

Princess Charlotte follows family tradition by opting for casual name at school

Princess Charlotte's full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Meanwhile, the nine-year-old, who is the third in the line of succession to the British throne, has a different regal title, Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.

Trooping the Colour, also known as The King's Birthday Parade, is a military ceremony to mark the official birthday of the British Sovereign. The ceremony takes place at Horse Guards Parade followed by a flypast over Buckingham Palace and was first performed in the mid-17th century during the reign of King Charles II. The parade features all seven regiments of the Household Division with Number 9 Company, Irish Guards being the regiment this year having their Colour Trooped. Neither of those names would likely be a good fit for Charlotte with her teachers and classmates at Lambrook School in Berkshire. Following the tradition of her older brother and other members of the British royal family, she is addressed at school with the more common name, Charlotte Cambridge, using her parents' title as her surname.

Her elder brother Prince George, who formally goes by the name George Alexander Louis, His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge, is known as George Cambridge in school.

Similarly, her father, William, and his brother, Prince Harry, adopted their father, King Charles III's surname, Wales, during the academic period. Besides school, they used the name during their military careers.

Princess Charlotte's affectionate nicknames

Charlotte Cambridge is not the only identity of the nine-year-old apart from her royal and formal titles.

Like any other child, her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have loving nicknames for their only daughter.

One of the nicknames was revealed in a family clip when the five of them attended the 2019 Royal Chelsea Flower Show. Kate helped in designing a garden for the show, and George, Charlotte, and Louis joined to check it out.

William, who was enjoying his time on a swing in the garden, called out to Charlotte, but instead of her real name, the future king addressed her "Mignonette", an adorable pet name. It means "small, sweet, and delicate" in French.

Kate has a different nickname for her secondborn, and that is Lottie. It was revealed in 2019 when the future queen consort met a fellow mother named Laura-Ann and her son during a 2019 official visit to Northern Ireland.

The mother posted about her interaction with the Princess of Wales on Instagram.

"She asked how old Bertie is, and I said he is four and she said, 'Oh, he's the same age as Lottie.' She calls her Lottie!" the mother from Northern Ireland said.

Even the late Queen Elizabeth II had a famous nickname. Her grandson William once mistakenly called her "Gary" instead of "Granny" after he once tumbled in Buckingham Palace, as per Marca.
