Real reason why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce skipped Met Gala 2025 despite receiving official invites

NEW YORK, NEW YORK: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce may be one of pop culture’s most-watched duos, but the Met Gala 2025 wasn’t on their calendar this year.
Despite being invited to the star-studded event held on Monday, May 5, at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, the pair opted out due to conflicting professional commitments, according to TMZ sources.

Swift has been largely out of the public eye in recent weeks, reportedly enjoying some downtime after wrapping up her record-breaking Eras Tour in December.
Meanwhile, Kelce has remained busy, and was recently spotted in New York City for a photoshoot before jetting off for a boys’ getaway to Las Vegas with pals Patrick Mahomes and Justin Timberlake.

Though they’ve been seen together everywhere from Coachella to the Super Bowl, Swift and Kelce have yet to make an official red carpet appearance as a couple.

Swift’s last Met Gala attendance was in 2016, when she co-chaired the event in a futuristic silver Louis Vuitton mini dress. Before that, she was a regular fixture on the Met steps, donning gowns by Oscar de la Renta, J Mendel, and Ralph Lauren.
Insiders say Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce embracing quiet life away from public

According to sources close to the pair, their decision wasn't a last-minute change but rather a conscious effort to step back from the constant public scrutiny.
“They have been traveling nonstop and very much enjoy it,” a source told People.
“They are making the most of their time off together. They’re hanging out with friends too. It’s a special time for them.”
The couple’s retreat from the limelight seems to reflect previous reports suggesting they’re working to protect their relationship from overexposure, reports Evrim Agacı.
An insider told Us Weekly in April that Swift and Kelce had made a joint decision to be more low-key. “They’ve learned that so much attention on their relationship is not the best thing,” the source said.
This year’s gala theme drew from the museum’s 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', but despite the star-studded turnout, Swift and Kelce were notably missing.
