The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony held on Sunday, September 15, saw tributes being paid to those from the TV industry who died recently.

Jelly Roll honored Gena Rowlands, Terry Carter, Shannen Doherty, Ryan O'Neal, James Earl Jones, Richard Lewis, Bob Newhart, Donald Sutherland, and Carl Weathers by singing ‘I Am Not Okay’, as reported by USA Today.

But people were quick to note that the beloved 'Friends' star, who died in October 2023 from the acute effects of ketamine— was not included during the In Memoriam tribute.

Jelly Roll, 39, said, “I believe that music is therapeutic. I believe that music can heal. I also believe that storytelling is just as cathartic. I hope this song can act as a healing moment for those mourning the storytellers we’ve lost this year.”

Jimmy Kimmel also took to the stage to honor Bob Newhart, actor and stand-up comedian who died in July this year at the age of 94.

He shared, as per Rolling Stone, "Those of you who knew Bob, who knew him personally, know he was exactly who you thought he would be."

"He did not have range. He didn't need to have range. Bob had what very few comedians have, especially today, a degree in accounting. Bob was a humble, politely hilarious man.”

However, some X users pointed out that Matthew Perry was not actually forgotten since he was included in the Television Academy’s January broadcast of the 2023 Emmy Awards.

The 2023 Emmys ceremony was held in January this year after being pushed back from its normal September 2023 spot because of the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strikes.
