WASHINGTON DC: Independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr criticized Vice President Kamala Harris’ choice of Tim Walz for vice president on Tuesday, August 6, claiming it would only deepen the political divide in the US.

Harris ended weeks of speculation by selecting Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate. She took to X to announce, "I am proud to announce that I've asked @Tim_Walz to be my running mate."

Robert F Kennedy Jr says Tim Walz called Donald Trump supporters ‘fascist’ and ‘weird'

Robert F Kennedy Jr voiced his concerns on social media, stating, “America’s political divide sharpens with the pick of Tim Walz for Dem VP.”

He also highlighted Walz’s previous remarks, saying, “He called Trump supporters ‘fascist’ and ‘weird,’ and they in turn are calling him worse than that.”

Kennedy Jr emphasized the need for an independent president, stating, “The need for an independent President who stands outside the divide and can unify the country is more compelling than ever. kennedy24,” he added in the post.

The speculation about Harris’ choice of running mate began shortly after President Joe Biden’s poor debate performance against Republican nominee former president Donald Trump in late June.

The rumors were confirmed when Biden announced his withdrawal from the race on July 21.

“Tim is a battle-tested leader who has an incredible track record of getting things done for Minnesota families,” the Harris campaign texted supporters at midmorning on Tuesday according to The Hill.

"As a governor, a coach, a teacher, and a veteran, he's delivered for working families like his. It's great to have him on the team," Harris wrote on X.

Tim Walz introduces himself to the nation: From coaching football to serving as Army National guard

Tim Walz, who is relatively unknown on the national stage, posted a video on his X minutes after landing in Philadelphia, introducing himself to the nation.

“My high school class was 24 people. I was related to half of them. I learned to be generous towards my neighbors, compromise without compromising my values, and worked for the common good,” Walz said in the video.

“My dad was in the Army. With his encouragement, I joined the Army National Guard when I was 17, I served for 24 years," he continued.

"I used my GI benefits to go to college and become a public school teacher. I coached football and taught social studies for 20 years, and I tried to teach my students what small-town Nebraska taught me: respect, compromise, service to country, and so when I went into government, that’s what I carried with me," he said.

Walz also spoke about his political achievements, saying, “I worked with Republicans to pass an infrastructure bill, cut taxes for working families, signed paid leave into law. I codified abortion rights after Roe got overturned, because I go to work for the common good,” he added.

Turning to the campaign, he said, “This election is about your future. It’s about your family,” he said.

“And Vice President Harris knows that she, too, grew up in a middle-class family. She, too, goes to work every day making sure families cannot just get by but get ahead," he added.

"We believe in the promise of America, in those values I learned in Nebraska, and we’re ready to fight for them," Walz said.

Robert F Kennedy Jr's comments about Tim Walz incite calls for his Donald Trump's endorsement

Reactions to Robert F Kennedy Jr's remarks on social media generated mixed responses. Some suggested RFK Jr to endorse Donald Trump while others accused him of stating strange things.

“It’s time to quit your DOA campaign and endorse Trump,” wrote one user on X in response to Kennedy Jr's post about Walz.

Another user wrote, “Drop out and endorse Harris/Walz.”

Someone else expressed confusion, stating, “I don't even know what to say about all this anymore. Everything seems so insane and not even real.”

Other users were skeptical of Kennedy Jr’s intentions, with one stating, “People thinking that Kennedy will drop out to support Trump is laughable.”

Another user mocked, “Go grab some roadkill for lunch and take a nap. The adults will handle this.”

One more user expressed disappointment, writing, “I don't think you're safe mate.. you had me on your side and then you started saying some really strange things.”
