Robin Williams’ children reactivate his Instagram account amid ‘rampant AI abuse’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Robin Williams’ children have taken a major step to safeguard their late father’s legacy and tackle “rampant AI abuse” as they revive his Instagram page.
The actor was 63 when he died in August 2014. Later, an autopsy disclosed that he had an advanced, undiagnosed brain disease called diffuse Lewy body dementia.
Robin Williams’ children express gratitude towards their dad's fans as they honor his legacy
Now in a joint statement posted on Williams’ social media page, his children — Zak, Zelda and Cody Williams—wrote, “We’re grateful to see new generations discovering his work while longtime fans continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives.”
Explaining further, the siblings stated that amid this technically fast-paced time, they want their father’s social media account “to be a safe, trusted place where the stories, photos, videos, and memories shared reflect his legacy with authenticity, warmth, and care.”
“This is our way of sharing his unique talent and humor with the world, including the moments that made us and so many of you laugh, as we remember our Dad’s extraordinary life and work. He continues to inspire us and delight people all over the world,” they added.
Zelda Williams explains why they decided to revive Robin Williams’ social media page
Shedding more light on their decision, Zelda said in her now-disappeared Instagram Story that though the revival idea is “a little strange,” she and her siblings though it “one of the best ways we’ve now found to fight back against rampant AI abuse of his voice and likeness on here.”
Last year also, the 37-year-old actress had called out AI videos of her legendary dad, an Academy Award winning actor who won it for his role in ‘Good Will Hunting’.
In October 2025, Zelda had said, “Please, just stop sending me AI videos of Dad. Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t. If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on.”
“It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want,” she asserted at the time.
Zelda Williams called out AI for 'badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be re-consumed'
Calling the AI videos of Williams “disgusting, the ‘Lisa Frankenstein’ director asked people to “stop calling it ‘the future,’ AI is just badly recycling and regurgitating the past to be re-consumed.”
“You are taking in the Human Centipede of content, and from the very very end of the line, all while the folks at the front laugh and laugh, consume and consume,” Zelda added.
