MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Rudy Giuliani, the former Mayor of New York, said that he wants to sell his assets in a New York bankruptcy court session held on Wednesday, July 3.

The lawyer representing the two Georgia election workers who won a $148 million lawsuit against Rudy Giuliani strongly objected to his request, according to Newsweek.

During the court session, Rachel Strickland, the election workers' lawyer, stated that Giuliani's request demonstrated "incredible bad faith" especially as his creditors were seeking information about his assets.

"This is right out of the playbook of Mr Giuliani. He has barely participated in the process," she said to the court.

What would happen if Rudy Giuliani is allowed to liquidate his assets?

Suppose Rudy Giuliani successfully changes his Chapter 11 bankruptcy to a Chapter 7 liquidation. In that case, it implies that his assets will be sold off, and he will no longer be obligated to his creditors, including the two Georgia election workers he falsely accused of rigging the 2020 election in favor of President Joe Biden.

Strickland also alleged that Giuliani was attempting to liquidate his assets before a court-appointed trustee could take charge of his finances.

She mentioned that once a trustee is appointed, Giuliani would lose the right to liquidate his assets.

She stated that Giuliani is “banking” on liquidation to lead to the dissolution of the Giuliani creditor committee and to indefinitely halt an investigation into his finances by their law firm, Akin Gump.

"We too are wholly against it and do not believe that this is something the debtor can do as a matter of right," she said.

Strickland further claimed that Rudy Giuliani's legal team had been arguing that a trustee was not necessary to monitor his finances and are now suddenly arguing for his entry into Chapter 7 liquidation.

Rudy Giuliani filed for bankruptcy in December 2023 after a jury awarded $148 million to two Georgia election workers who had won a defamation lawsuit against him.

As an attorney for former President Donald Trump in 2020, Giuliani falsely accused the mother and daughter duo of Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss of committing election fraud while counting ballots in Fulton County in Georgia.

Strickland informed the court that Giuliani "continues to ignore court orders" to disclose his income and assets.

"This is right out of the playbook of Mr Giuliani,” Strickland remarked. “He has barely participated in the process. Now he is facing a motion to compel discovery, he conveniently files an application to convert to a Chapter 7."

Furthermore, the lawyer contended, "He knows that a motion to appoint a trustee is pending and he knows that once that is granted, which is a strong presumption, he would be foreclosed from seeking this relief under [federal bankruptcy rule] 11.12.a."

Creditors are pushing to have a trustee appointed because they allege that Giuliani is attempting to conceal assets and income from them and cannot be trusted to provide an honest account of his true financial worth.

Rudy Giuliani's attorneys have consistently denied these allegations in legal filings.

These developments occurred just a day after a New York appellate court disbarred Rudy Giuliani as a lawyer for the false claims he made about Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

His spokesperson told the aforementioned outlet at the time that the former New York City mayor was the victim of political persecution.

Internet lambasts Rudy Giuliani for wanting to liquidate his assets

Another person claimed, "Giuliani is trying to game the system and everyone knows it."

Another person wrote, "Rudy G was great after 9/11. Then he got lost in the immoral web of deceit and bizarre behaviors of Trump. Gone was his sense of right and wrong and his duty to the public. The only thing that mattered was serving Grabber Guy Trump in his election lies. Sad."

One person said, "Sounds like another conservative slimy legal tactic."

Another person quipped, "America's criminal."

"Rudybeggar going broke with no one to blame but his old lame self," someone else commented.
