Ryan Reynolds shares unconventional co-sleeping arrangement with Blake Lively and their four children
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have a bedtime routine involving their four children that breaks all the conventional rules!
During his chat on the 'Not Skinny But Not Fat' podcast on July 30, the 47-year-old actor unveiled their unique sleeping arrangement: the entire family co-sleeps.
Ryan Reynolds embraces co-sleeping 'chaos' with Blake Lively and their children
The 'Deadpool' star and Lively snuggle up every night with their four children — 9-year-old James, 7-year-old Inez, 4-year-old Betty, and baby boy Olin.
He shared, “Our kids can’t even go to sleep unless they’re in our bed. As much as I’d say I’d love to spread out and fall asleep normally, I withhold that.”
Reynolds might find co-sleeping with his children endearing — though he probably wouldn't mind a bit more room to stretch out!
It is noteworthy to mention, the downside of co-sleeping as it poses significant safety risks for infants.
According to KidsHealth.org, it can “increase the chance of suffocation, strangulation, and SIDS [Sudden Infant Death Syndrome]” for young children. It's a truly frightening prospect!
Despite the tight quarters (and safety concerns), Reynolds reportedly said he wouldn't want to change a thing.
He cherishes the “chaos” of parenthood, saying, "Having kids is kind of awesome. I think it’s embroiled that we’ve embraced the chaos. Like, we have four kids and nothing’s gonna be tidy ever again."
"It will [eventually] when they all leave the house and they’re all gone. My wife always says, ‘They’re all under our roof right now. The whole family’s under our roof right now. We have them all. That is a fleeting thing and not an infinite resource.’"
He added, "So, [my advice to other dads is to] embrace the chaos of it all because it does get to you. And it’s OK to be like, ‘OK, f**k, I am dying here.’ Because that’s gonna happen every other day. If you can think about what you would give in 30 or 40 years to come back and enjoy this one moment, [then it’s worth it].”
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds first became parents in 2014
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds married on September 9, 2012, initially meeting on the sets of 'Green Lantern.'
Their first daughter, James, was born on December 16, 2014. She was followed by Inez, born on September 30, 2016, and Betty, who arrived on October 4, 2019.
In February 2023, Lively shared the subtle news of their fourth child's arrival, a son named Olin, by posting photos of their Super Bowl festivities.
The Reynolds children not only have famous parents but also have global pop star Taylor Swift as their godmother.
Swift revealed this special title in July 2024 on Instagram story, humorously referring to Reynolds as her "godkids' sperm donor."
Despite their growing brood, Reynolds has hinted that they might not be done having children.
In a July 2024 interview with E! News, he joked, “The more the merrier. As many as possible. As many little heartbeats as possible, just running around, wrecking stuff in the house. I love it. Let’s have more!”
Lively and Reynolds have managed to balance their bustling careers and family life, often sharing glimpses of their parenting journey but for most of it the couple has kept their children away from the limelight.
