Savannah Guthrie quietly cuts Fridays from 'Today' schedule amid mom Nancy’s disappearance
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Savannah Guthrie has reportedly made a quiet change to her ‘Today’ show schedule months after her mother Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Arizona home. The longtime anchor is no longer working Fridays.
Savannah was off the air on October 2 and had also been away from ‘Today’ on Fridays throughout September, with one exception. She reported from the Freedom Tower on September 11 despite the schedule change, according to the report.
Savannah Guthrie's schedule change is 'not permanent'
Sources told The US Sun that Savannah is no longer working Fridays as she deals with the disappearance of her mother. An insider said the change is “not permanent,” suggesting that the schedule adjustment could change again.
The source also claimed that Savannah is highly valued at 'Today' and that “no one says no to her.” The insider added, “Especially after what happened with her mother.”
Savannah’s recent absences have not been limited to Fridays. She took a two-week summer break before Labor Day and returned to her seat on September 8.
The 54-year-old also took time away in July to tape the upcoming game show 'Wordle'. During some of her absences, ‘Today’ host Laura Jarrett filled in alongside anchor Craig Melvin.
The latest schedule change, however, comes as Savannah continues to face an unresolved situation involving her mother.
Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains unresolved
Nancy, 84, is believed to have been abducted from her Tucson, Arizona, home during the early hours of February 1. There has been no sign of her since.
Several ransom notes have emerged during the investigation, including messages sent to local media and the Pima County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have yet to establish where Nancy might be.
The most recent messages reportedly included an apology from people claiming to be her kidnappers. They also claimed Nancy had died from natural causes.
Nancy’s family has pointed to her dependence on vital daily medication that she could not survive without.
Savannah has publicly pleaded for anyone with information about the ransom notes to come forward. She has also shared emotional messages on Instagram as she continues to seek answers about her mother.
