PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: On Thursday, May 16, former President Donald Trump gave lukewarm praise to independent presidential candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr while ridiculing the Biden campaign's demand for one-on-one debates later this year.

The 81-year-old incumbent president and his 77-year-old predecessor have tentatively agreed to participate in two presidential debates: one hosted by CNN on June 27 and another on September 10 by ABC News.

However, the Biden team set specific conditions to ensure that the former POTUS participates, including barring third-party candidates, per the New York Post.

What did Donald Trump say about Joe Biden and RFK Jr on Thursday?

Donald Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, “Crooked Joe Biden does not want RFK Jr in the debates because Junior’ is far left [of] him and they would be debating over the same territory, like ridiculous Open Borders and the Green New Scam, both of which are killing our Country.”

“He’s also sharper and far more intelligent than Joe, all making for a bad combination of ingredients,” the 2024 presumptive GOP nominee remarked.

“I don’t care if Junios’ [sic] joins the Debate, but right now his polling numbers are very low, he is not properly qualified in the States, and he seems to be on a downward path. Junior’ needs more than his name to get on the ‘stage!'” he concluded.

Both CNN and ABC News announced that candidates must achieve a minimum of 15% in designated polls and appear on enough state ballots to secure 270 electoral votes to qualify for the debate.

Kennedy Jr garnered up to 16% in recent CNN and Quinnipiac polls. His team is working to get him on the ballot in all 50 states and claims to have access to 187 electoral votes.

Earlier this month, the 45th POTUS disregarded RFK Jr as "not a serious candidate," opting not to address the independent candidate's proposition for a direct one-on-one debate at the Libertarian Party's national convention on May 25.

Following the agreement between Biden and Trump for two presidential debates on Wednesday, Kennedy Jr expressed his discontent at being omitted from the entire ordeal.

“Presidents Trump and Biden are colluding to lock America into a head-to-head match-up that 70% say they do not want,” Kennedy Jr wrote on X.

The 70-year-old claimed, “They are trying to exclude me from their debate because they are afraid I would win. Keeping viable candidates off the debate stage undermines democracy,” adding. “Forty-three percent of Americans identify as independents.”

Internet reacts to Donald Trump's statement

One X user remarked, "Trump should just say no debate without Kennedy."

Another user said, "Trump would never debate Kennedy bc of the shots."

Another user claimed, "Trump is a schizophrenic idiot. One day he is bashing RFK's intelligence, the next he is praising it."

One X user wrote, "Hahaha coming from trump who talks about nonsense at his rallies and praises ppl like hannibal lector, stop playing and acting like this man is well."

Another user quipped, "And that's saying a lot since a good portion of RFK Jr's brain mass was consumed by worms."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Biden will have to be even more doped up than he was for the SOTU Even then due to his Dementia he will be unable to debate anyone."
