The world’s top-ranked golfer revealed the details behind the bizarre accident while speaking to reporters ahead of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, reported Whiskeyriff.

During his media session, Scheffler explained that he and his wife, Meredith, were making homemade ravioli in a rental home when they improvised with a wine glass to cut the pasta dough. That hack didn’t go as planned.

"We wanted to make them from scratch, so you’ve got to roll the dough and you’ve got to cut the dough. But we were at a rental house so we didn’t have the right tools and the only thing was a wine glass that we found," Scheffler said. "It broke and the stem kind of got me in the hand. It’s one of those deals where I can’t live in a bubble, got to live my life, and accidents happen."

"You know, it could have been a lot worse. I actually talked to somebody who did the exact same thing and the stem went straight through their hand. It’s one of those deals where immediately after it happened I was mad at myself because I was like gosh, that’s so stupid but you just don’t think about it when you’re in the moment,” he said.

Luckily, the injury wasn’t worse, and Scheffler is already competing again though fellow golfer Rory McIlroy had a suggestion to help avoid future kitchen disasters.

Rory McIlroy weighs in, Scottie Scheffler fires back

Rory McIlroy, never one to miss a chance for a jab, noted that Scheffler’s $29 million earnings last year could easily fund a personal chef.

“I think he made enough money to hire a chef. It’s like..why are you cooking for yourself? I was hoping it was going to be a bit more fun of a story than that. Firstly just concerned and hoped he was okay. It sounds like he is and it’s good that he’s teeing it up this week. But, yeah, get a chef.”

When reporters relayed McIlroy’s comments, Scheffler responded with a quip that instantly went viral.

“I actually do have a chef. Her name is Meredith, she’s pretty cute.”

The lighthearted remark was clearly meant as a joke, but the internet quickly jumped to comparisons with Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker whose comments about traditional gender roles sparked major controversy.
