Sean Hayes reveals he got treated twice for 'heart issue' on same day, drove himself to hospital

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sean Hayes, known for his role in 'Will & Grace', shared that he recently had to be hospitalized twice in one night due to a recurring heart condition.

The actor revealed his health ordeal during an episode of the 'Smartless' podcast, which he co-hosts with Will Arnett and Jason Bateman.

The incident occurred earlier this month when Hayes woke in the middle of the night with atrial fibrillation (AFib), a condition that causes an irregular heartbeat.

During the podcast, Will Arnett brought up Sean Hayes’ health issue after Hugh Grant, their guest, discussed the toll of jet lag on his body. Grant talked about his flight from London to Los Angeles.

"I can’t do it anymore. I think that’s another age thing. I woke up hours ago very, very hungry and felt like my heart is made of Play-Doh," Grant said.

Arnett then shared details of Hayes' hospital visit, saying, “Sean woke up two or three nights ago in the middle of the night with a heart issue, drove himself to Cedars-Sinai," adding that he "didn’t wake up his husband," Scott Icenogle.

Will Arnett added that Sean Hayes underwent treatment involving defibrillator paddles. “They put him under. They paddled him. He drove home.”

Hayes explained that the ordeal didn’t end there. “An hour later, he woke up to use the bathroom, drove himself back to Cedars, and got paddled again,” Arnett added, recounting the second trip to the hospital that night.

Despite the double medical emergency, Hayes and his husband, Icenogle, went to dinner that evening.

“Went to dinner that night," Hayes chimed in.

Will Arnett compares Sean Hayes' ordeal with Hugh Grant's jet lag

Will Arnett used the moment to lighten the mood, telling Hugh Grant, “[Hugh,] so you’re jet-lagged by comparison. And I’m not saying this to make you feel bad.”

In response, Grant joked about feeling “humiliated” after hearing Hayes’ story, US Weekly reported.

“I have AFib, so your heart beats [very fast]. You feel like you’re gonna die.”

“So when I go to the ER … at Cedars-Sinai, I’m like Norm from Cheers, because I’m in there all the time," he added revealing how he is snapped back into the regular rhythm with electrode pads.

In another instance, Hayes described experiencing AFib while walking in New York City with Icenogle.

He recalled being rushed to the ER by Icenogle. and undergoing the usual treatment.

Icenogle even stayed in the emergency room to witness the process. Hayes humorously noted, “This is amazing,” after being revived.

According to the Mayo Clinic, atrial fibrillation is an arrhythmia that causes the heart's electrical impulses to beat rapidly and irregularly, leading to symptoms like fatigue and shortness of breath.
