NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: For years, Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez have been entangled in persistent online drama — often without ever directly addressing each other.

Tied together by pop star Justin Bieber, 31, the two have been the subject of ongoing fan-fueled speculation, cryptic social media posts, and perceived rivalry.

Now, their long-standing digital tension is resurfacing yet again, drawing renewed attention to their complex online history.

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber appear to have quietly reignited their long-rumored feud with one subtle move — unfollowing each other on social media, as per Page Six. 

Sharp-eyed fans quickly took notice, interpreting the move as a possible sign of tension between the two. While both the 32-year-old singer and the 28-year-old model have consistently denied any conflict, online speculation has persisted for years.

The social media move was first reported by the X (formerly Twitter) account @metgalacrave on Friday, June 20.

Many believe their rumored rift stems from their connection to Justin, who famously dated Selena on and off from 2010 to 2018.

The 'Baby' singer and Hailey were first romantically linked between 2015 and 2016 during one of Justin and Selena's breaks. They later rekindled their relationship in June 2018 and tied the knot just a few months later in September 2018.

Despite repeated denials, internet sleuths continue to dissect their every move, convinced there’s more to the story.

This came after an insider revealed that Hailey Bieber was deeply upset by Justin Bieber’s recent Instagram activity, especially his cryptic Father’s Day posts, which she believes only intensified public scrutiny.

“The post really set her off — she told him it was one of the dumbest things he’s ever done like ‘feeding raw meat to a pack of lions who want to eat you alive,’” the source told The Sun.

According to the source, Hailey is frustrated by Justin’s tendency to share personal struggles online, feeling it only worsens the situation.

“She’s trying to help him, but he just keeps shutting her out,” the insider explained. “She’s really angry that Justin is airing his issues on social media — his bad moments, his struggles, his weaknesses — for the whole world to see. She didn’t agree with it at all. She thinks it’s a stupid move. She feels like he’s digging himself a hole. Posting about his life like this only makes things worse.”

The tipster added that Hailey has urged Justin to take a break from social media, focus on his mental health, and regain some balance, but he continues to go his own way.

“She’s begged him to stay off social media for a while, to lay low, regroup, and focus on getting to a better place mentally. But he keeps doing things his way, and she feels pushed aside — like she’s no longer a part of his decision-making. It’s heartbreaking for her to watch,” they said. 

The insider also shared that Hailey feels Justin is “acting like a teenager again, thinking that posting online will somehow fix things,” and noted that the couple has been arguing about his public behavior.

Neither Hailey nor Justin, who welcomed their now-nine-month-old son, Jack Blues, in August 2024, has publicly addressed the current state of their relationship.

Selena Gomez and Hailey Bieber’s social media truce appears to fade

In an effort to quiet speculation that their friendship was unraveling over Justin Bieber, Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez posed for a photo together in 2022, as per the Daily Mail. 

At the time, the former 'Disney' Channel star also called on her fans to stop sending hate Hailey's way online. Since then, the two occasionally made public gestures of support to show there was no bad blood.

Selena and Hailey have continued to show occasional support for each other’s posts on social media.

Most recently, Selena “liked” an Instagram post from Hailey’s Rhode Skin account celebrating her debut Vogue cover last month.

Likewise, when the 'Love You Like a Love Song' singer announced her engagement to Benny Blanco in December 2024 after a year of dating, Hailey returned the gesture by “double-tapping” the post.

Selena also liked a Sephora post announcing that Hailey's Rhode beauty brand would be available in stores.

However, signs suggest the truce may have ended. Tension appeared to resurface last month when Selena was accused of subtly shading Hailey following news of Rhode’s sale.

Just a day after the sale was announced, Rare Beauty — Selena’s cosmetics line — posted several images of her, one of which featured her blowing a kiss. The caption simply read, “Still here.”
