LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Caroline Franklin, 37-year-old former friend of pop star Selena Gomez, 32, recently took to the social media platform Instagram to share a cryptic threat aimed at her, The US Sun reported on Friday, February 21.

The two were known to be close friends for almost a decade before fans recently discovered that Selena had stopped following Caroline on social media. Their fallout is speculated to be over different political views since Caroline is supportive of President Donald Trump while Selena is notably liberal.

Caroline Franklin's threat to Selena Gomez

According to the Daily Mail, Caroline Franklin shared a series of messages on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday, February 19, threatening to expose a nameless celebrity with whom she claimed to have been friends for ten years. While the posts were soon deleted, fans believe that they were aimed at Selena Gomez.

In one of the posts, Caroline blamed "phony celebrities" for their "performative activism," while stating in another, "I’ve been transparent with who I am my whole life… Who are you? What have you presented to the world that you are?”

"When I decide how and when to expose you...I will address it with the most detail and sincerity to the 10-year friendship I experienced and survived. Under oath," she added, ending with a kissing emoji.

Insider reveals Selena Gomez acknowledged Caroline Franklin's posts were for her

An insider reportedly told the Daily Mail that Selena Gomez was certain Caroline Franklin's posts attacking celebrities were specifically aimed at her.

"Selena is not worried about Caroline. No one is," they noted, labeling Caroline's behavior as "attention seeking."

While Selena and Caroline were steadily drifting apart as a result of their opposing political beliefs, it was when the latter attacked her friend Gigi Hadid for being pro-Palestine that Selena decided that she had had enough.

According to the publication, Selena finds it easier to walk away from her former friends as she enjoys the support of her fiance Benny Blanco, who shares her liberal views.

Internet slams Caroline Franklin and Selena Gomez for falling out over political beliefs

Netizens reacting to the news on the website of the Daily Mail called out Caroline Franklin for allegedly attacking Selena Gomez for differing political views. The following examples demonstrate their takes.

"It’s sad that political beliefs get in the way of friendship and family. It’s really very petty in the big scheme of things," wrote a person.

"Why are women in their 30s acting like middle-schoolers about their friendships?" shared another.

"A friend wouldn’t threaten to expose anything," noted another.

"I don’t care for Selena, but friends shouldn’t turn on friends. That’s low," expressed someone else.

"She obviously wasn’t a friend is now showing her true colors," echoed one user.
