Serena Williams shares why she chose to keep her distance from pal Taylor Swift at Super Bowl 2025

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Serena Williams has opened up about why she avoided her longtime friend Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl 2025 that took place in February 2025.
Speaking with Time Magazine, the 23-time Grand Slam winner said that she and her entrepreneur husband Alexis Ohanian came with their elder daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr (Olympia), to the event.
They wanted to get an autograph from the Grammy-winning singer for her and even went near the pop sensation’s VIP box, Page Six reported.

Serena Williams says she knows how it feels to see your team lose
But they could not proceed as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce’s team, the Kansas City Chiefs, lost the game to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The former tennis player thought it best to give some time and space to the ‘Love Story’ hitmaker.
Williams said, “I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl.’”
She, however, noted that “it’s hard when your team is losing. I totally get it.”

The mother-of-two further added, “My husband and I, we’re so in a different space. We’re so connected, we’re so in love, we’re just, like, trying to get our daughter Taylor Swift autographs. And nothing else.”

She was previously romantically involved with Drake, and many assumed that she was attacking the rapper through her cameo. But Williams claimed, “I would never do that. And that was sad, that anyone would ever think that. I respect how they could.”
“Obviously, I can see how someone would think that. But absolutely not. I have never had negative feelings towards him. We’ve known him for so many years,” she added.
Williams also addressed ESPN personality Stephen A Smith's criticism of her as she asserted, "I thought it was hilarious. He’s allowed to have his personal opinion. But did you see my husband’s remark? It was so eloquent."
