LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shakira opened up about the emotional toll of her separation from her longtime partner, former Spanish footballer Gerard Pique.

The singer is moving forward after her highly publicized split and reflecting on how music plays a central role in her healing journey.

Shakira explains her way of healing after Gerard Pique breakup

In a recent cover story with GQ Spain, Shakira spoke about how her first album in seven years, 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' (Women Don’t Cry Anymore), became an outlet for processing her grief.

The Grammy-winning artist shared that it was difficult to begin grieving after the end of her 11-year relationship with Gerard Pique, which ended in 2022 amidst cheating rumors that surfaced later.

“For many months after my separation, I had been silent, trying to begin my mourning, but I couldn’t really begin to grieve until I started writing music,” she explained.

“It was my way of healing. And it continues to be. Grief is a process that is not linear. It is full of peaks and valleys,” Shakira added.

Her new album, 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran', has been deeply personal, marking a pivotal moment in her emotional recovery.

Acknowledging that while she is still processing her grief, her music will continue to be her outlet, even hinting at more albums to come.

“The healing process is long. It will take me several albums!” said Shakira.

Shakira's changed perspective on love

Shakira shared that her split from Gerard Pique altered her view on love, making her more cautious about future relationships.

“It’s not the same. The love of a partner disappointed me. It affected my idiosyncrasy. It’s inevitable, at least for the moment, that I have lost trust in the other,” she told GQ.

In a July 2024 Rolling Stone interview, she described the breakup as one of the most painful experiences of her life.

“The suffering I felt was probably the greatest I had ever experienced in my entire life, and it kept me from functioning at times,” she said, describing the emotional pain as almost physical.

Shakira's World Tour gets postponed to 2025

Amid her personal struggles, Shakira’s professional life continues to soar as her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has drawn massive fan interest, according to People.

However, the North American leg of the tour, originally set to begin in November 2024, has been postponed to May 2025.

The 'Hips Don't Lie' singer made the announcement on Instagram, citing overwhelming demand and the need to upgrade the show’s production.
