Shannon Amos pursues investigation into father John Amos' final days after suspicion over his death

EAST ORANGE, NEW JERSEY: Shannon Amos, the daughter of late actor John Amos, has hired attorney James H Davis III to investigate her father’s final days.

Shannon, co-trustee of John’s estate, is raising questions about the circumstances surrounding his death in October and his admission to Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to TMZ.

John Amos' hospital admission raises concerns

Shannon Amos’ concerns stem from her father John Amos’ admission to the hospital, reportedly by someone falsely claiming to be John’s "daughter".

This individual was not her brother, Kelly Christopher Amos, who was acting as John’s caretaker at the time.

Shannon wants clarity on John’s medical condition upon arrival and the reasons behind the hospital’s alleged lack of cooperation in providing his medical records.

Her lawyer stated that despite three formal requests for these records, Centinela Hospital has yet to respond.

This silence has raised further suspicions about John’s care and treatment during his final days.

Allegations of elder abuse

Shannon Amos is also pressing for answers from Adult Protective Services and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

She filed a complaint about potential elder abuse in February 2024, and she now seeks confirmation that the case was thoroughly investigated.

According to her legal team, “The family deserves to know the full circumstances surrounding Mr Amos’ care and the events that led to his passing."

"We are committed to pursuing all available avenues to ensure that these questions are answered,” they added.

John Amos' family disputes and alleged misconduct

The Amos family has experienced significant turmoil in recent years.

Shannon has accused her brother, Kelly Christopher, of elder abuse multiple times.

She claims he prevented relatives from visiting John in his final days and hastily cremated their father’s remains to avoid an autopsy.

Shannon’s lawyer emphasized the importance of transparency in healthcare and the rights of families to access critical medical information.

“The investigation will continue to seek answers and accountability in this deeply personal and significant matter,” he added.

How did John Amos die?

Following John Amos' death at the age of 84 on August 21 from congestive heart failure in Los Angeles, Shannon Amos announced a public memorial and celebration of life to honor her father's memory.

"Though we may have learned the news late, we are sending my dad’s spirit home with a beautiful Celebration of Life and Legacy,” read Shannon's post about the tribute scheduled for November 23 at the Cicely Tyson School of Performing and Fine Arts in East Orange, New Jersey.
